They built a log cabin on the banks of the Brazos River and started farming which they did for many years until a sawmill became available to them and they started manufacturing lumber from logs brought downriver by the riverboatboats. In 1910, General Hugh Jethro Grant Postell bought land east of town and began developing it into an agricultural community with two churches, a school, three stores, and several homes. There were also several natural resources such as coal, oil shale, water supplies, timberlands, grazing lands around the town square where sheep could be grazed while men worked on building railroads orConstructing dams etc., These days there are only some traces of these pioneer days remaining including evidence of a stone wall around what used to be the original post office building which now houses apartments
