Nacogdoches is a town in Wise County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,906 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Wise County. Nacogdoches was founded in 1836 and named for Captain Isaac Nacogee who had been captain of a small schooner that sailed to Louisiana from Texas in 1835. The first school in the community was built on the present site of the courthouse in 1840. The first post office was established in 1841. Nacogdoches grew slowly until it experienced an influx of settlers after the Railroad arrived through what is now Wise County in 1881. By 1900, there were over 100 businesses and 2,000 residents.
