In 1868, Dutchman Piet Oudolfzoon opened Oudolfs Koffiehuis (Old Coffee House) in The Hague which became the first known commercial business specializing in smallbatch coffee production. Over time other businesses followed suit until there were more than fifty independently owned businesses producing high-qualitysmall batch coffees around the world!
