In 1942, Dutch marines deployed in the United States as part of World War II. From then until 1946, they served in the Marine Corps stationed at Camp Blanding, Florida. In that time, they donated a total of 21 gifts to local schools and organizations.
Nederland is a city in the Texas Panhandle and the county seat of Hudspeth County. The population was 7,887 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. The name Nederland comes from Dutch settlers who landed in what is now Hudspeth County in 1836. A post office called Nederland was established in 1849, and remained in operation until 1907. The city's first settlers were men at least 25 years old who had arrived from Holland on horseback or wagon train during the 1840s. They built log cabins along a creek that led to an area now known as Pampa Park. In 1845, John Baptist Taylor donated land for a town square and school board meeting house near his ranch home. By 1860, all but one family living within 1 mile of Nederland had moved there to take advantage of new irrigation systems developed by James Fenton and others associated with the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB). The remaining residents founded churches, schools, postschools, hotels and stores within a few miles of their original homes before1900. In 1903-1904, two Dutch families - de Valkenbosch and den Helderhof - purchased 640 acres east of present day Nederland for $10 per acre ($640/acre at current prices). This purchase set off what would eventually become one of North America's most prolific agricultural towns – agriculture becoming an important factor in early development because it provided jobs for many people during hard times following the American Civil War (1861-1865). In 1916-1917, Deutsch Brothers erected a three story red brick warehouse on Main Street between Elm Street and Depot Road which became known as "The Dutch Bros." Warehouse activity increased rapidly due to World War I shortages caused by Austria-Hungary’s war against Serbia (April 1914 – December 1915). After hostilities ceased, goods flowed into North America again through Mexico City; however smuggling continued so warehouses were needed again quickly hence "The Dutch Bros." became known as "Italians" after German documentation revealed exports from Austria totaled 3 million kg compared to imports that amounted to 6 million kg! With production increasing rapidly it was decided that more space should be allocated on second floor where company articles were stored rather than down low where they were likely contaminated with dirt particles <=> Today's building still standing next door...

In 1839, Texans voted to create a state legislature in Austin, which would be the first Republican-controlled legislature in America. The legislature passed a bill creating Nederland as the new capital of Texas. Nederland quickly became known for its cowboy culture and for its agricultural products, such as cotton and cattle. In 1861, Confederate forces invaded Texas and skirmished with Union forces near Nederland. On April 14, 1865, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia after losing the battle of Gettysburg. With Confederate defeat and Reconstruction accomplished in America, Nederland reverted back to Dutch rule following the end of World War I. Today, Nederland is home to a large Dutch community that has ties to bothTexasandthe Netherlands itself. Nederland, Texas was founded in 1848 as a result of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The town was named after Dutchman Hendrik Franszoon Nederland and his family. It grew rapidly due to its location on the Santa Anna River and its access to railroad transportation. In 1874, the town boasted a population of over 1,000 people. By 1912, Nederland had become an important agricultural center with a wide variety of crops such as cotton, corn, hay, and dairy products.
