Army deployed gift history in Pampa, Texas began with the establishment of Fort Sam Houston in 1836. The fort was built to protect against the Comanche and Kiowa Indians. The Army garrisoned at Fort Sam Houston included troops from Mexico, United States, and Canada. The first military deployment of Army troops in Texas took place on July 4, 1839 when 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment Infantry arrived at San Antonio de Bexar to help suppress a Mexican-American insurrection. For the next few years west of the Rio Grande, deployments occurred sporadically as various engagements required soldiers who could not be immediately dispatched to other assignments or called home for family reasons. On December 10, 1841 an artillery detachment from 3rd Battalion Missouri Volunteer Cavalry arrived in San Antonio and was attached to Brigade Major General James Bowie’s command as part of the Polk Expeditionary Force under General Don Carlos Gilberto de Zúñiga y Costilla. Commander of Brigade Major General James Bowie’s brigade were Colonel John Sibley (3rd Missouri Volunteer Cavalry) and Lieutenant Colonel Samuel J. Kirkland (2nd Illinois Volunteers). These units were equipped with six artillery pieces each and served as skirmishers across Texas during operations against Santa Anna’s forces near Austin on January 20-21, 1842. This expedition also resulted in the capture of two cannons belonging to Santa Anna’s forces; one cannon was used by Captain David Arapaho for his personal use at Nueces River Bridge before it was confiscated by United States Government authorities in March 1865. In May 1846 Brigadier General Nathan Bedford Forrest organized Cavalry Division which became known as I Corps within Department of War after Beauregard became Commanding General Confederate Forces West Tennessee Valley Campaign on April 6th following Presidencies Order No: 12— “Organize army for general command over all cotton western states southward along line Arkansas/Oklahoma/Texas” I Corps consisted of 2 brigades plus 2 Independent Companies commanded by Colored Troops LtCol George Washingburn (1st Kentucky Infantry) & Capt William Lloyd Stone (10th New York Infantry) & 1st lieutenant Adolphus Roosevelt Whitehead (8th New York Infantry). As part of its annexation by the United States, Midland County added Pampa to its list of municipalities on November 4, 1907. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Pampa has a total area of , all land. As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,812 people residing in the town: 621 households out of which 31% had children underthe ageof 18 living with them; 56% were married couples living together; 10% had a female householder with no husband present; and 24% were non-families . Pampa is a town in Gregg County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. The community takes its name from Pampa, Mexico. The location of Pampa on the Texan frontier made it an important center for trade and settlement in the early years of the Lone Star State. By 1860, Pampa had become a small village with a population of just over 100 people. However, by 1870, Pampa had developed into a busy cotton town that became known for its landmark courthouse and opera house. In 1902, part of what is now Gregg County was added to Texas; as result of this addition, Pampa's position as county seat changed from two to one. In 1924, when Gregg County merged with Travis County to form the current state of Texas, Pampa reverted back to its original title as county seat – but only until another provincial merger or annexation occurred and it again became unincorporated territory within Travis County. As part of the ongoing effort to clean up some outdated zoning regulations in Gregg County (and throughout much of Texas), efforts have been made to re-instate restaurants and other businesses that were closed during prohibition days in order to create more open-air retail space within reach for local residents. This has resulted in several successful openings such as Jack’s BBQ & Wings which reopened after being closed for over 20 years and Turtleback Brewery which reopened after being shut down for over 25 years!

The McCullochs were pioneers who came to the area to homestead and start a new life. In 1916 Pampa was incorporated as a city with a population of around 50 people. A fire destroyed most of the town in 1925 and it never recovered from that loss. However, due to its location within easy driving distance for many residents, Pampa slowly regained its former prominence as an agricultural center during the 1970s and 1980s. During that time Pampa experienced significant growth with more than 100 businesses opening up over the years.
