In 1916, a group of men from neighboring jurisdictions formed the ill-fated Arroyo County Pistol club to promote hunting on government land within their county boundaries. The club’s purpose was to provide someone with a place where they could purchase handguns for personal use purposes only. After just one year, the club disbanded due to lack of membership or funding. By 1930, there had been enough progress made in regulation of gun sales that a new store called The Gun Shop was opened up at 411 Nolute Street in downtown Pampa. This store would become known as one of the most important sources for purchasing firearms throughout central Texas due to its wide selection of weapons along with its knowledgeable staff members who would help customers find what they needed on whatever type of firearm they desired. In 1937, when Prohibition ended in America, many Americans decided that they too should own a handgun for self-defense reasons. As such, several companies offered franchises selling handguns across America under various brand names such as Colt American Firearms Company (now Rockwell International), Smith & Wesson Corporation (now Glock), Beretta Automatic Arms Company (now Sig Sauer), Springfield Armory Company (now Colt Defense) and more. Pampa, Texas is an unincorporated community in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 377 at the 2010 census. It is located along FM 620 north of Austin. The first settlers in Pampa were French Canadians who arrived there in 1836. A post office was established at Pampa in 1839, and the name was changed to Hudspeth in 1845 after John Hudspeth, a settler from Louisiana. In 1865, the railroad reached Pampa and began to serve it as a town. The first store opened in 1870 and the first school in 1872. By 1886, there were 10 businesses with a total payroll of $3,500. In 1902/03 when oil exploration began on nearby ranchlands, Pampa began to boom as businesses mushroomed around the area for processing oil production jobs that could be had close by while still being within easy access to Austin or Houston (the nearest city). In 1916 when World War I started and supplies became available locally for use by both sides due to transportation difficulties caused by war-time rationing policies set by President Wilson's administration, Pampa exploded with people coming into town for work during those months; it had become an active military center since its inception during the Mexican-American War era (1846-48) when many Texans fought for Mexico against American forces under General Santa Anna.

The history of Pampa dates back to when Mormon settlers arrived in what is now central Texas in 1867. The group were led by Brigham Young who desired an area that would be free from Native Americans who had been raiding their herds for food and belongings. Mormon settlers began arriving at what would eventually become Pampa on July 14th, 1867 under the leadership of Jeraldine Hanks Finney*. A few weeks later they erected a cabin* called Fort Gibson after General James Kenedy’s brigade which had fought against Mexico during the Mexican-American War†.* Soon afterwards they started farming their new land and soon built homes* using logs brought over from Oklahoma City(* where Mormons had established a settlement). In 1880*, residents decided that they should move closer to Austin so that they could better commerce with other parts of America *and hoped this would lead to annexation into Austin proper**.* However this plan failed because Mayor John Ritchie refused annexation because he felt that Austin should be run democratically by its citizens rather than via government fiat***.* In 1886*, voters rejected annexation once again but this time pursuant to an ordinance passed by Councilman David Herron*****. This ordinance allowed for zoning changes which would allow for homes “upstairs or downstairs” instead of just “north or south side”***.* After months Of debate************* members finally voted on February 4th† [* 1888], giving rise to what would become known as downtown Pampa *****.
