Pampa is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 1,615 at the 2010 census. Pampa is the county seat of Hudspeth County and the only village in the county. It is also home to Pampa Air Force Base and the University of Southwestern Texas. The present-day town originated as a cattle ranching community called Gossamer Springs. A post office was established there on December 15, 1881, by J. Neely Richardson with the name of Rancho San Marcos de las Pulgas (later renamed Gossamer Springs). In 1923, Wm. Hays Post Office opened at Pampa and served until it closed on January 17, 1938. In 1936, Don Ray Knight purchased 3,000 acres (10 kilometers²) of land east of Pampa from Alfred Clements for $1 million dollars. He named his new community Knightdale after his late father-in-law who had donated that acreage to Knight in 1935. The first housing development in Knightdale was built by Knights for their employees and friends in 1939; this became known as "The Village." On November 4, 1941, Hurricane Allen struck Pampa causing extensive damage to both the Community Building and many other buildings within The Village including a schoolhouse which collapsed onto its students inside; all but one student were killed or seriously injured when it happened. When World War II began hostilities erupted between America and Japan resulting in an armistice ending hostilities on September 2, 1945; much like many other small towns along the front lines throughout World War II United States Army soldiers stationed at Fort Sam Houston National Military Park where they constructed makeshift homes out of materials scavenged from local households during peacetime; these soldiers are considered part of "The Prairie Boys" or "Pampa Boys". After VE Day Armistice ended all American troops left returning civilians under Japanese occupation took over most functions associated with government centers such aspost offices while Japanese nationals continued to administer justice using their own system known as konbu which involved torture and execution without trial or due process just like during prewar Japan . New residents who arrived during wartime often brought their skills and experience with them which led to establishment of several businesses including: A & M Chevrolet Sales Co., Hwy 61 Truck & Trailer Sales Inc., Don's Pizza restaurant chain started by Don Ray Knight Sr., Kmart store opened in 1947 adjacent to an existing hardware store operated by Mr./Mrs.(now Mrs.) Harold Lusk-Lusk(a native Texan), Eagle Ford Oil Refinery began production 1962 producing gasoline/diesel fuel products beneficial for defense industry used both locally market share primarily for military purposes then exported starting 1966 becoming one largest U S oil supplier outside OPEC

Pampa, Texas is a small town in Cameron County, Texas. It was founded in 1881 by George and Anna Pampa. The name "Pampa" means "place of the buffalo." The first post office in Pampa was established in 1881. Pampa is located on the banks of the Brazos River. The town was originally built on land that was donated by General Sam Houston and his family. In 1886, the town voted to become a city. In 1907, the city annexed portions of nearby Lufkin to form a new city government. However, this merger did not work out well and Lufkin seceded from Pampa in 1911. In 1915, John Denton purchased some land east of Pampa and developed it into what is now known as Denton Heights. Denton Heights became an incorporated community in 1924 and has since been growing ever since with development including homes for professors at UT-Austin, a shopping center, schools, churches and businesses. Denton Heights also played an important role during World War II when many people chose to live there because it offered access to ample farmland for Patton's Army Corps' four main theaters of operations - Normandy (the invasion), Brittany (the Battle of the Bulge), Germany (the Liberation) and Holland (the campaign). After war ended, much of this acreage turned into subdivisions but some remains within the boundaries of today's Denton Heights
