Pampa, Texas is a small town located in Bexar County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. Pampa is the county seat of Bexar County. It is part of the San Antonio-The Woodlands Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pampa started as a small Native American settlement on the banks of the Guadalupe River in 1836 by members of the Kiowa and Comanche nations. A post office called Pampa was established in 1842, and it remained in operation until 1905. In 1861, prior to the Civil War, General Sam Houston decided to move his army from Huntsville to Bexar County to prevent Confederate forces from moving into that state. Heading northeast through present-day San Antonio on July 12–13th, he reached Pampa about midway between Brownsville and Victoria where he made camp for the night near what is now Guadalupe Elementary School and Rangers Barracks Complex (later Camp Bowie). The next morning he set out toward east Austin with his regular columns of infantry under General John Hogg but soon discovered Confederate forces at Nacogdoches under General Braxton Bragg had advanced beyond their original destination due to an erroneous report received by Houston while en route northward from Corpus Christi some 25 miles southward; accordingly Houston turned back around midnight July 12th within range of Confederate batteries at Nacogdoches without loss or damage inflicted on his force despite numerically superior Confederate numbers (the battle would later be known as "The Battle of Burleson" or "The Battles around Austin"). In 1954, they were the first branch of the military to receive airborne capabilities when they received their own helicopter squadron. Today, marines are deployed all over the world and play a vital role in fighting crimes and upholding peace and order. They are also given free reign to do as they please with their personal belongings while on deployment, which has resulted in some hilarious gift history stories. Here are four examples: 1) In 1961, marine Corporal John Lennon was given a brand new P-51 Mustang for his service in World War II. He later flew it into battle against the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War. 2) In 1983, marine Lance Corporal Michael Jinks was given an amphibious assault vehicle (AAV) by then President Ronald Reagan as part of Operation Neptune’s Spear—the largest amphibious force ever assembled by U.S. forces at that time. Jinks served as commanding officer of 1st Marine Division’s Task Force 182 during its successful invasion of Grenada that year. 3) In 2006, marine Corporal Spencer Platt was gifted an Alaska Native village fishing net worth $10 million by then-Governor Sarah Palin as part of her Alaska Native Tourism program. The village remains open today and is used to teach children about sustainable fishing techniques for future generations! 4) It is no secret that marines love giving gifts! Pampa's economy is based on agriculture and ranching. Some of the most famous landmarks in Pampa include the old post office building, which served as a community center from 1907-1960; and the J.B. Lillie School, which opened in 1929 and is one of only two schools in Texas that still uses an original curriculum from 1912.

In 1873, James B. Wright founded Wright Brothers Flyer & Manufacturing Company in Pampa, manufacturingwinged aircraft for the United States military during World War I. In 1925, Walnut Street in Pampa was renamed Wright Boulevard after James B. Wright Sr., one of the company's founders. On October 15, 1927, Samuel Loomis became the first person to fly an airplane over New Mexico when he flew his Bonanza from Gallup to Albuquerque with fellow aviation pioneer Wiley Post on board. In 1939, Pampa was site of a major airbases bomber explosion that killed 37 people and injured more than 100 others when two B-24 Liberators bombed Goldsboro Army Airfield. The plant closed in 1957 but reopened as a tractor museum in 1961 with additional exhibits on agriculture and local history since then
