The Navy deployed gift history to Pflugerville, Texas in 1951. The USS Enterprise (CVN-80) was the first ship to deploy to Japan as part of Operation Magic Carpet. As part of the deployment, the Enterprise brought along a gift from the Japanese people in memory of fallen servicemen and sailors. A plaque was placed on the side of the ship that read “This Ship Received From The Japanese People In Memory Of Fallen Servicemen And Sailors”. Since then, Naval Station Pflugerville has been home to many different types of ships and personnel including Marine Forces Pacific (MFP), Helicopter Squadron H-1(HMM-314) and Headquartersmarine Force Europe (HQME). Each deployment brings with it a new set of gifts for our citizens in Pflugerville. Today, Naval Station Pflugerville presents Sailors and Marines with fresh fruit baskets, cupcakes or cake mix boxes, chocolates or candy bars, and personalized items like cars or bicycles. On November 27, 1941, the USS Constitution (CV-4) was deployed from Pflugerville to participate in the United States Navy's first World War II campaign. The ship arrived at Pearl Harbor on December 2 and relieved USS Lexington (CV-4) as flagship of Task Group 15.3.1. The group participated in the strategic bombardment of Pearl Harbor before departing for Kwajalein Atoll on January 9.
Pflugerville, Texas is a census-designated place in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,873 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The community was founded by cattle ranchers in 1879 as a small settlement on the banks of the Pecos River. By 1890, it had become an important connection on the Transcontinental Railway and its herds of Hereford and Angus cattle were blamed for promoting grasshopper populations that threatened crops across much of east Texas. The United States Navy has been deploying troops, supplies, and equipment to various locations around the world for over 180 years. In recent years, the Pentagon has made it more likely that service members will be deployed in harms way. This deployment policy is known as Operation Neptune's Spear and was created in order to increase troop readiness and improve U.S. security posture in the face of possible adversaries such as Russia and China. The history of gift giving during naval deployments can be traced back to at least World War I when sailors sent parcels home with their loved ones back home. In 1919, a ship called USS Constitution sailed into New York Harbor with a shipment of cigarettes for then-President Woodrow Wilson. After landing on Staten Island, two marines from the ship took care of delivering the cigarettes while other sailors manhandled crates of munitions ashore. Since then, Naval Deployments have become an important aspect of U.S.- international relationships and have often provided opportunities for civilians to connect with service members on short notice or even long distance (sometimes through mail). Pflugerville is a city in Texas, United States. It was incorporated on August 29, 1876. The population was 46,866 at the 2010 census. Pflugerville is located in the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The city of Pflugerville began as a trading post known as "Granada". In 1875, James Hargrave founded Gentry City and platted it around what is now downtown Pflugerville. After he died in 1885, his son George Hargrave continued to operate Gentry City until its sale to John Lewis in 1898. From 1898-1901, the town of Pflugerville was part of Lancaster County. In 1902, the Texas General Land Office surveyed and sold 1 million acres (4 km²) of land east of Austin for $2 million dollars to Andrew Armstrong Clements and Jeptha Boren Clements. They named their land "Pflugerville" after James Hargrave's ancestral home in Granada, Spain. The original plat showed five small villages: Granada Village (now Downtown), Belle Vista Village (now East Austin), Highland Park Village (now West Austin), White Sands Village (now South Lamar), and Rancho San Antonio Villa de las Flores (later renamed Alamosa). The city annexed parts of Round Rock on June 12, 1915 with a population of 28 people; this annexation created an urban zone with a total population of 1009 residents when it took effect that day On November 3rd 1916 voters approved incorporation by vote of 925 to 348 over objections from citizens who wanted only an agricultural village like Round Rock On January 1st 1922 voters approved incorporation by vote of 513 to 1116 over objections from citizens who wanted only an industrial village like Round Rock ; thus Plano became the first municipality east of Dallas . However plans were made for both cities to merge but this merger never happened due to disagreements between management teams
