Plainview is a town in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1876 and named for Josiah Giddings, who donated land to the town.
The first store in Plainview opened in 1876. The post office was established in 1880 and remained open until 1901. In 1907, the first high school opened in PlainVIEW with grades 8-12. The school closed during World War II but reopened after the war as Plainview Junior High School. The current high school building opened in 1955 and is used today as theplainview community center.
On July 4th, 1976, Mayor Donnie Crain led a procession of more than 100 citizens from PlainVIEW to White Sands Missile Range to celebrate America's independence from Great Britain by firing an American cannonball into the ground at sunset. This event is still known as "Donnie's Declaration."
In late 2009-2010 plainVIEW hosted "Texas Proud" an annual Festival which celebrates Texan culture and heritage with arts and crafts displays throughout downtown plainVIEW each day ofJuly4th through 7th inclusive.
It featured fashion shows by local vendors on Main Street & down one side of Plaza Drive while across Main Street from plaza there were food booths featuring locally sourced items from several different restaurants.
There was also music by local artists all day long including performances by gospel choirs on Saturday afternoon along with Folklorico Band playing live music all day Sunday morning starting at 11am.
All proceeds went towards support of various youth programs within plainVIEW that year.
The Town plat for Plain VIEW was filed on November 26th 1876 under dateline December 2nd according to Handbook of Texas History (1889). At this time it covered acres just east of FM 1250 between US 75 & Ranch Road 620 EB where present day US 90 meets CR 620 EB
