The Plano Army Reserve Training and Doctrine Command (ARPTC) deployed an ammunition battalion to Iraq in 2003. The battalion's commander, Maj. Gen. Tony Bales, told the Plano Tribune in February 2006 that "the troops just do not have enough ammo." He said the unit had brought along a Mock Jury kit to provide entertainment for soldiers during their training exercises.

In 2013, City Manager Rick Smith announced that annexation of WestConnex would be stopped effective July 1st due to low population levels which have not increased in recent years
