The Marine Corps has been deployed in various forms since World War II. The Marines first mobilized as a part of the United States Army in 1941, but were not active in the Vietnam War until 1965. In 1967, the Marines became a separate service with their own insignia and dress code. They have deployed to every country in which they have ever participated in war, with the exception of Iraq and Afghanistan. The Marine Corps is one of only two military services that maintain an all-volunteer force. As such, there is no enlisted force able to provide security for dignitaries or protect important installations abroad. This unique policy has led to some memorable gifts from Marines who have served. One of the most famous Marine gifts was the USS Constitution Museum shipwreck located off California’s coast. Bush himself, members of Congress finally discovered what had happened on December 8th when they received a report from Petty Officer First Class James Aiken that he sighted wreckage off Point Reyes Light during his watch that day (the Constitution was sunk six days later).On July 13th 1984, during Operation Desert Storm when coalition forces bombed Baghdad’s Wadi Khaldun oil refinery following Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait City—an event dubbed “the worst possible gift imaginable” due to its potential environmental impact—veterans from Company F stationed at Djibouti took delivery of four USMC F/A-18 Hornets flown outfitted with Hellfire missiles and bombsarding targets inside Baghdadmodelled after Iraqi tanks firing toward Coalition forces advancing across Anbar Province outskirts on October 6th 1988 – this was also known as Operation Thunderstorm because it affected almost all areas within 1 km radius bombarding more than 100 targets near downtown Baghdadincluding several hospitals.). These planes patrolled over Baghdad throughout its night time hours providing coverage for ground troops engaged in combat below) After 9/11 terrorist attacks aboard USS Cole which killed 17 U.S sailors followed by USS Enterprise collision resulting in 11 dead navy sailors And 5 injured marines Dec 2002 three different groups decided to give presents each other items like watches ect….
