Red Oak, Texas is a small town in the eastern part of San Antonio County, Texas. The population was 1,242 at the 2010 census. It is located on I-35W and U.S. Highway 183. The first settlers in Red Oak were farmers who started up around 1836. By 1850, the area had about 50 residents and was part of the Handsome Lake District of San Antonio County. In 1907-08, a new school was built on Commerce Avenue between Second and Third Streets by George Waddell which operated until 1916 when it also burned down.
