Richardson, Texas is a town located in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. It was founded in 1853 by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna and named for him. The population of Richardson was 6,814 as of 2010. Richardson is the seat of Richardson County, which is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county has a total area of 116 square miles (291 km2). As of 2010, there were 2,643 registered voters in Richardson County. The Republican Party controls all branches of government in Richardson County. Richardson's history can be traced back to 1853 when General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna founded the town on land that he had purchased from the Apache chiefs who had killed his father and elder brother. After years of struggle against Indian raids and skirmishes, Richardson became a thriving community with shops and businesses built throughout its downtown core - an example still visible today including several banks and four churches. In 1876, Congress passed an act creating Williamson County out of parts of Guadalupe, Medina and Montgomery counties; Richardson received its county seat at Fort Worth (now Arlington Heights).
