Rosenberg is located in southeastern Hudspeth County and is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Rosenberg was founded by Germans in 1887. It became a United States military airbase during World War II and again during the Cold War. Rosenberg has been included on several list of " America's 10 Best Places to Live", including "The New York Times" and " Forbes". Rosenberg, Texas is a small community located in east-central Dallas County, Texas. The town was founded in 1892 by Jacob Rosenberg and his family. The population of Rosenberg increased rapidly after World War II when the area became a center for manufacturing and agriculture. The cotton industry declined in the early 21st century, but the town has continued to grow along with its nearby farms and businesses. The first residents of Rosenberg were farmers who grew grains and tobacco. In 1892,Jacob Rosenberg moved his family from Hungary to live in what is now Rosenberg. He started a farm that produced wheat, corn, rye, oats, potatoes and other crops. Jacob's son Julius also lived in the community after he arrived from Hungary in 1902. From 1906 until 1915, Jacob ran a grocery store on Main Street which later became known as "The old store." In 1951, Rosenberg joined the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area as part of the city's annexation intoDallas suburbhood. At that time it had a population of just over 10,000 people living within its borders alone. By 1990s there were more than 30 thousand people living within city limits alone due to growth withinDallas suburbs since 1970s suburbanization policy was enacted by then Mayor Tom Landrieu . Rosenberg experienced significant economic decline during the late 20th century as industries such as cotton production merged with those found elsewhere outside of Dallas-Fort Worth; however some elements of local economy have bounced back such as restaurant/name brand retail establishments situated around Main Street (Edwards Restaurant Group), agricultural processing companies (Grundy’s Farms), wholesale grocers (JBS) and service companies operated out of local high schools or churches (Friendship Baptist Church). These services continue to provide support for many families residing near downtown – including those that manage main streetside businesses - providing an important backbone for vitality today while still allowing opportunities for investment into new business ventures throughout this growing community
