Since the early 1800s, the Rowlett National Guard has been a symbol of patriotism in Texas. The unit was first organized on November 24, 1836, when Colonel John F. Smith ordered the raising of a regiment from citizens who had offered to volunteer for service. The National Guard continued to be raised through World War II and into the 1960s. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy designated the Rowlett National Guard as an operational reserve unit for use in case of an emergency within the United States or abroad. This designation allowed for the purchase and shipment of weapons to units located throughout Texas and other states in case of war or natural disaster. In 1987, Congress passed legislation authorizing Texans aged 18 or older to become members of theRowlett National Guard if they have resided in Texas for at least five years and are willing to serve three months per year on active duty with no possibility of release until six months after leaving military service. As part of this program, new members must pass a fitness test and undergo training on how to operate firearms and handle explosives. The Rowlett National Guard is one component of statewide guard forces that are responsible for maintaining order during events such as parades or road closures across all 51 counties in Texas . It also provides law enforcement support during carnivals, rodeos, state visits by governors and other dignitaries, and other major events statewide. Citizens can join up with their local guard force either through attendance at recruit training sessions held near their home town or by signing up online at www.guardtexasonline.gov/register/. The Rowlett National Guard was organized on Dec. 20, 1907 in response to the Texas Revolution of 1836. The unit was originally called the Texas Rangers, and served under Governor Sam Houston until 1912. On July 1, 1916, the Rowlett National Guard became an all-volunteer force when statehood was granted to Texas. In 1940, the Rowlett National Guard became a part of the United States Army and served as an armory guard for Fort Worth Air Force Base before becoming an infantry brigade in 1951. In 1962, it became an armored brigade and then a mechanized brigade before becoming a corps level army unit in 1984. TheRowlett National Guard currently consists of more than 9200 soldiers and civilians with Camp Bowie near Dallas serving as their home base.
Rowlett is a town in east Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. It was founded in 1873 by Mrs. Anna Lubbock and her husband, James Rowlett. The name "Rowlett" meaning "place where cows are pastured" is derived from that of Anna's father, John Rowlett. The first post office in Rowlett were opened on March 12, 1874 by JOSEPH ROWLITT and his wife ANNA LUBBOCK . On October 8, 1890 WILLIAM FOSTER opened a stage stop called "Foster's Station" west of the current town limits. On February 26th 1914 DENNIS WOODS open up what would become the first general store in Rowlett when he established the First National Bank there. This store would be closed in 1993 but reopened as an old-time grocery store known as The Woodlands Store later that year In 1916 JOHN MARTIN opened up his own grocery business and it still operates today as Overstreet Market located between I-35W and US 67 with over 200 years of history! In 1949 WILLIAM BECKHAM started the first barber shop in Rowlett which continues to operate to this day! MARGARET SUMNER started her own dry goods store on Main Streetrowlet before moving to milemarker 21st after their lease expired! In 1957 PATRICIA MCGUIRE started serving coffee from her home until she moved out into her own business two years later and continues to serve coffee from her home today! In 1985 LINDA SULLIVAN started serving breakfast items from her home until she moved out into her own business called Mrs Sullivan's Place later that year ! rowlet sustained some damage during Hurricane Ike on September 15th 2008 causing most businesses not reopen for several days due to lack of power however all but 3 had reopened within a few hours !!
The National Guard has a long and troubled history. From its inception in 1776, the Guard was meant to be a reserve force that could be called up for military service in times of crisis. However, this never happened and the Guard instead became something more like an umbrella organization with many different purposes. Through the years, there have been various attempts by Congress to create a national guard system. The most famous attempt occurred during World War II when President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the National Defense Reserve Corps to help supply American troops with equipment and manpower in case of war. After the war, however, it was realized that the Guard would not be able to provide enough soldiers for a national defense system on its own and so Congress passed the National Guard Service Act of 1946 which divided the Guard into two main sections: state militias and federally recognized Indian tribes. The following year, Congress also passed another act which gave the president power to call up members of the National Guardsman without their consent or notification if necessary for “the purpose of suppressing insurrection or insurrections within said United States” (42 U.S.C § 924). This law allowed for widespread chaos as people across America started calling up their Guardsmen without knowing what they were getting themselves into. Eventually, these calls turned into actual wars as armies began spontaneously assembling based on false rumors about impending trouble elsewhere in America (e.g., The Korean War). Despite all these problems, however, some members of Congress continued trying to create a national guard system even after it was clear that it would not work either legally or practically. In 1969, Representative Gerald Wray introduced H.R 5442 which would have established a secret unit within each state police department called The NationalGuard (later renamed The United States Army Reserve). Despite being met with resistance from both political parties and ample evidence that such an outfit existed already (e.g., several undercover agents working inside state militias), Wray managed to get his bill through congress and signed into law by President Richard Nixon just days before he resigned over Watergate scandal (which plagued Nixon throughout his presidency).

In the early 1900s, Rowlett was a small community with few businesses or residents. Most of the people who lived there were farmers or ranch hands who did not have much else to do besides farm and raise livestock. But over time, Rowlett began to develop into an important center for ranching and food production in Cameron County. By 1940, it had become one of the most prosperous towns in Cameron County. The Cotton Bowl Game helped bring prosperity to Rowlett during World War II; throughout the war, the town produced more than 1 million pounds of cotton for Wilson Textiles Inc., one of Texas' leading textile companies. After the war ended, however, business slowly declined as new technologies replaced traditional methods of producing cotton goods such as tractors and machines. But despite this decline, Rowlett still remains an important cultural and economic center in Cameron County today; its downtown is home to several businesses including The Container Store and IGA Supermarket
