Sachse is a town in Coleman County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,643 at the 2010 census. Sachse was founded by German immigrants on May 12, 1848. The town name comes from the nearby watercourse Sachse creek. The first settlers who arrived in Sachse were Kessler and his family who came overland from Germany on July 10, 1848. They erected a cabin near the present day center of the town. On January 5, 1850, they donated land to form what would become Sachse Township. In 1852 Congressman James Kline recommended that Sachse be named for General Andrew Jackson because of its strategic location just outside of Houston on Buffalo Bayou (later known as Tomball River). In 1907 local farmers organized a cotton gin and sharecropping operation which became one of the largest in Texas. The cotton gin produced 4 million pounds of cotton worth $35 million during its lifetime and continues to function today as an important part of Sachse's economy. Today's Achille Hardware store is also significant in the community's history; it opened its doors on November 15th, 1925 and has been open continuously since then providing reliable commerce for locals and visitors alike!
