Sachse was a town in east Texas that rose to prominence during the American Revolution. The small town, located on the banks of the Sabine River, became an important staging ground for the rebels and their supporters. In 1781, Sachse helped lead an unsuccessful attempt by General Sam Houston to cross the river and circumnavigate America. In 1836, Sachse was attacked by Indians, resulting in the death of several people and damage to downtown businesses. Despite this attack, Sachse continued to grow as a stop on the stagecoach route between Galveston and New Orleans. By 1860, it had become a thriving community with over 9600 residents. However, within two years following its incorporation into Dallas County, Sachse fell victim to economic depression caused by decreasing demand for goods produced in eastern Texas. By 1871, it had all but disappeared from history as a result of its decline. However, due to its role in Texas history and culture – most notably its role in helping establish Dallas – Sachse has kept alive memories of its past for many residents today. Today's community is home to a variety of businesses including a museum dedicated to local history and cultural significance; a library; and an outdoor playground/entertainment complex known as "The Park."

By 1920, the population had increased to 5,000 residents and it remains one of the largest towns in Limestone County today.
