The United States Air Force's deployed air force gift history spans more than fifty years. The USAF deployments in Texas have included a number of different types of aircraft, equipment and personnel. This paper will explore the deployment of an F-4E Phantom II from Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina in 1965 and its subsequent salvage and storage at Laughlin AFB, Texas. In the early 1960s, Seymour Johnson AFB was among the most advanced fighter bases in the US military. It housed four Lockheed P-3C Orion squadrons as well as an experimental Boeing B-47 Stratojet bomber squadron known as "Nighthawks". In addition to its capabilities as a fighter and bomber base, Johnson also served as a training ground for Air National Guard pilots and controllers who would later serve in the USAF during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. In 1965, Seymour Johnson AFB was activated with twenty F-4E Phantoms assigned to it under Project Eternal Blue. These planes were used for aerial reconnaissance over North Vietnam during the Vietnam War while also providing support to American forces on land. On July 1st of that year, Captain William "Bill" Harris became commander of Operational Squadron ONE at Seymour Johnson AFB when Captain Rufus Witherspoon left for assignment overseas with Headquarters USAF (HQAF). Lieutenant Colonel John Moseley took command of One until he retired from service on December 15th 1968 having served there since August 1966. Lieutenant Colonel Moseley had been chosen by General Curtis LeMay to lead Project Eternal Blue which was responsible for deploying all available USAF jets into any theatre or conflict around the world within two years time frame; this ultimately led to his retirement from active duty on October 16th 1970 after forty five years ofServing with distinction both at homebase and abroad

During World War II, San Antonio played an important role as one of America’s largest military bases with thousands of soldiers living and working here. Today, San Antonio is known for its art galleries, nightlife (including major festivals like SXSW), restaurants, shopping malls, historical attractions (like Alamo Plaza),and well-preserved architecture dating back to early Spanish colonial times
