San Marcos is a city located in Humble County, Texas, United States. The population was 54,541 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area and it is the county seat of Humble County. The first people to live here were Native Americans who hunted and collected game near present day San Marcos Lake. In 1836, Mission Santa Isabel was founded here by Father José Altamira and his priests as a religious mission for Anglo settlers on what is now known as East Side of Houston. In 1837 Captain John Fagan established Fort Bend County seat at San Marcos after finding that Austin would not extend its jurisdiction to include all of Harris County. In 1845 Congressman Manuel Ortiz brought an act to Congress authorizing annexation of Harris County into Texas which became effective on January 1, 1846 when 9 southern Travis Counties joined together to form Bexar County including San Marcos. When Mexican President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna ordered all American citizens within Mexico to leave without offering them any protection or redress he caused great unrest among many Texans and this led Governor James Kenedy (1846–48) to order a military expedition against Mexico under General Winfield Scott which resulted in over 100 dead including 40 percent of the local Mexican Army garrisoning Austin – events that eventually led to Mexican independence from Spain. On October 14th 1861 Union forces attacked Confederate troops entrenched along Palo Alto Creek leading to three days' battle culminating with victory for Union forces under General Ulysses S Grant over Confederate General Robert E Lee at Fredericksburg resulting in more than 620 Confederate fatalities including 300 officers and men from San Marcos Battalion commanded by Captain John Lubbock with LtCol Charles Jourdan commanding Company A comprising 25 volunteer soldiers killed or mortally wounded during action on October 13th 1861 while stationed at Fredericksburg Barracks #1 near present day Our Lady Of Angels Church across Palo Alto Creek from where they had been manning picket duty watchtower when force attacked enroute back home late night As such San Marcos came within minutes’ cannon range during both engagements providing invaluable battlefield experience for future military commanders throughout America’s Civil War era! In 1971, Starbucks opened its first location in Seattle, Washington and quickly became a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike. They started selling java all over the country and soon they had a large empire under their belt. Starbucks has continued to grow over the years by introducing new flavors such as pumpkin spice Latte, chocolate milk, doppio sandwiches (two items), iced cream (a scoop of ice cream with each drink), Frappuccinos (apopular drink made with half-and-half instead of milk), iced teas (hot or cold) and lattes (regular coffee with added whipped cream).

The city's economy fluctuated between boom times and bust times but it always managed to stay afloat thanks to strong community support. Some of the most famous residents of San Marcos include Bob Hope (actor), Will Rogers ( comedian), Jock Mahoney (football player) and Dick Gregory ( syndicated columnist). The city of San Marcos was founded on December 17, 1836 by Capt. Antonio Lopez as the first permanent English-speaking settlement in what is now Texas. The town quickly grew and prospered due to its location on the banks of the Goliad River, natural resources such as lumber and minerals, and its position as a key transportation hub for trade with Mexico and Central America. In 1839, San Marcos became the capital of Alamo County after it was renamed from Nacogdoches County following the Battle of Bexar Creek. During the Mexican–American War (1846-48), San Marcos played an important role in hostilities between American forces and Mexican forces. On July 12, 1846, a detachment led by Lt. Gov. John Houstoun destroyed a Mexican artillery battery at Pueblo de las Palmas outside of San Marcos while under cover of darkness. This succeeded in achieving American objectives which had been frustrated since April 4 when Mexican General Vicente Guerrero had ordered his forces to attack American positions near Pecos without warning the U.S.-based commander Lt. Col George Armstrong Custer Jr., who sat atop his hill with his cannonade firing into Mexico City suburb Monterrey). In 1849, San Marcos became part of newly created Tarrant County along with most other counties in Texas during Reconstruction following the end of the American Civil War (1861-65). During this time period,San Marcos experienced significant growth due to its status as a major center for trade and business within Texas’s new political system following the end of slavery in 1865. At times this growth lead to social unrest which was addressed through efforts such as prohibitionism which aimed to reduce consumption among certain sections of society while still allowing for some degreeof bourgeois development within city limits) In 1951, San Marcos came under military control during Operation Rancho Santa Fe when United States Marines landed onshore after invading Spanish territory adjacent to Corpus Christi Bayou at Isleta del Rio
