Schertz, Texas is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,573 at the 2010 census. It lies near the Mexican border and within the Mexicali Valley of California.
The town started as an agricultural community in 1884. Schertz was founded by German immigrants who came to Midland County to seek new opportunities after World War I. They land grantnamed the area "Schertz Ranch" in honor of their friend, General Friedrich Wilhelm von Schertz, commander of Army Group C during World War I and one of Germany's few members of that army to receive the Iron Cross for bravery on the battlefield.
The townsite changed hands many times until it became Schertz Township in 1907. In 1912, Schertz School District No. 1 was formed from parts of four other townships: Spring Branch (township form 1907), New Braunfels (1912), Mission Viejo (1914) and Luling (1915). That same year also saw construction begin on what would become Schertz High School; which opened its doors in 1916.
In 1952, Schertz became a city with its own government when it merged with nearby Waco. At that time, there were just 11 businesses in all of Schertz City; but today there are more than 100 enterprises employing over 2,000 people who employ more than 200 full-time jobs in various sectors including agriculture, manufacturing/services industry, retail trade and healthcare services cottage industries such as auto parts and textiles. In 1984-85 market research conducted by local real estate company Navarro & Associates revealed that what had once been an agricultural town had emerged as a bedroom community for Waco.Navarro & Associates

Schertz is a small town located in Montgomery County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. Schertz was founded on May 9, 1887 by John Schertz and his family. It became an incorporated town on December 1, 1907. On July 14, 1916, Schertz residents joined together to form the Lone Star State Bank and Trust Company. The bank was destroyed in a fire on November 15 of that year. In 1933, Schertz's school district merged with the Houston School District to create the Houston Independent School District (HISD). In 1949, HISD replaced its original name with the current one - Schertz ISD. In 1957-58 when SCHEDs used different methods for calculating student achievement levels for public schools in TX it caused some controversy because many students from inner city areas were getting better grades than those from richer suburbs which were not subject to SCHED calculation
