The United States Army has a rich history in Seabrook, Texas. The town was founded in 1867 and became an important military installation during World War II. Today, the army occupies a number of buildings in the town, including the old Fort Worth Barracks and the now-defunct Camp Roberts. The army's presence in Seabrook began with Major General James A. Garfield's arrival to command American forces in Texas on November 3, 1867. At that time, only three Native American tribes lived within twenty miles of present-day Seabrook: The Kiowa Indians at Fort Sill on the Arkansas River; the Comanche Indians at San Antonio on the Gulf of Mexico; and the Lipan Apache Tribe at Rancho de la Tijera on Saturday Lake. Garland's force arrived to find that Mexican troops had already committed numerous atrocities against Native Americans living within Confederate territory east of Abilene, Kansas. To quell Indian resistance to Ulysses S. Grant's occupation of their lands, Garfield ordered his men to burn any villages they encountered along their route into Texas. This campaign led to what is now known as "the Burning of Dallas." In response to this atrocity, Garfield issued a proclamation ordering all white Texans responsible for causing harm or destruction within Confederate territory "to be punished by death or imprisonment." In compliance with this order, two white men were hanged from a tree outside Dallas for damages done during celebrations leading up to Garfield's proclamation--a heinous act which underscored how serious matters had become regarding race relations in America after the Civil War era. By 1870, however, it was clear that neither Mexican nor Confederate troops could indefinitely remain stationed in Texas without causing friction between both groups--thus tasking General Andrew Johnson with finding another state for American soldiers to garrison until such time as hostilities subsided there also. On October 20th of that year--just days after Johnson took office following Abraham Lincoln's assassination--Johnson announced plans for 2 Infantry regiments and 1 Cavalry regiment (soon renamed Troops) would be sent westward under command of Major General George Armstrong Custer from Omaha City Nebraska Territory (present day Council Bluffs Iowa). Eager for military action against hostile Sioux chief Sitting Bull who had recently raided southeastern Nebraska farms near Rock Island National Monument (now Mounds View), Johnson authorized Custer's mission correspondence dated November 7th 1870 reveals no less than five letters authorizing use of artillery and cavalry forces against Indian targets northwest of Omaha City if necessary... it should also be noted that these letters were never acted upon by either Generals Dodge or Armstrong Custer when they reached their destination due largely to political factors related primarily to Sitting Bull agitated behavior rather than actual threats posed by him towards western settlers/ Plains Indians...it should also be pointed out that some former members & staffs [of] US Military Forces currently active duty inside Mexican Controlled TX are quite certain various descriptions given about today whereabouts aforementioned 5 letter Authorized Use Of Artillery And Cavalry Forces Within 30 Miles Of Omaha City Were Not sincere Lies Duly Crafted For Political Reasons Only

Seabrook, Texas is a small town in the far west corner of Texas. It is located on the Brazos River and has a population of around 1,600 residents. The town was founded by pioneers in 1881. The first post office was established in Seabrook in 1886. In 1999, Seabrook was designated as an Americana Place by the National Register of Historic Places. The history of Seabrook begins with three men: John Wesley Seaver, Jesse Ladd, and Franklin A. Smith who founded what would become Seabrook in 1881. The town was named after John Wesley Seaver’s father-in-law, Samuel Broome, who had settled in nearby Lincolnton six years earlier. The three founders were inspired to settle because of their concerns about the future of the area and its lack of resources. At first, they only rented land from local ranchers but soon began buying property themselves. In 1885, they donated a parcel of land to the town for $1 per acre which made it one of the most affordable places to live in Texas at that time. By 1897, there were already enough residents living in Seabrook to start a library and school district which quickly became popular among locals and visitors alike due to its excellent educational opportunities for children and its proximity to businesses and shopping centers across Interstate 10. In 1999, Seabroook received designation as an Americana Place by the National Register Of Historic Places following renovations done by volunteers funded through donations from residents and business owners alike. The Seabrook, Texas community began as a cattle ranch in the late 1800s. The area now known as Seabrook was originally part of Lubbock County. In 1907, the county was divided into two and the town of Seabrook became a part of Lubbock. In 1915, the population of Seabrook reached 5,000 people and it quickly grew to become one of the most important communities in east Texas. The town prospered because it had access to land and water resources that other towns did not have. The city hall was built in 1926 and served as the center for local government until 1974 when Lubbock took over that responsibility. The city is home to many businesses and industries such as lumberyards, agriculture, manufacturing, light industry and healthcare facilities. There is also an athletic stadium called University Stadium which has been used by both football and baseball teams since it was first built in 1924.
The first stores in Seabrook were opened by the owners of the town hall. The first post office was in Seabrook and was called the "Seabrook Post Office." By 1892, there were twelve businesses in Seabrook. In 1907, two brothers began to operate a grocery store on Main Street. In 1916, Seabrook voters passed an ordinance that banned gambling within the town limits. The next year, they passed an ordinance that prohibited liquor sales within town limits. In 1922, a new school was built west of downtown and named after Mrs. Gertrude Bird Sprague. Mrs. Bird Sprague served as its first principal until her death in 1951. In 1929, three companies began to organize themselves into what is now known asthe Texas Chain Store Association (TCSA). The TCSA purchased the local general store and renamed it the "Texas Chain Store." By 1941, there were sixteen stores located in Seabrook with a total business of $1 million dollars. In 1945, the TCSA merged withthe Texas Retail Merchants Association (TRMA) which had been formed earlier that year to consolidate several small retail merchants into one organization
