Sagoville, Texas is a small town located in Tarrant County, Texas, approximately 20 miles west of Fort Worth. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. Sagoville is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1884 by Scotsman John Seagrave and his wife Sarah Fenton. The two were looking for a place to farm and settle after purchasing land from the Comanche people near present day Arlington Heights, Illinois. The Seagrave family soon developed a small cotton plantation called "Nigger's Grove". In 1905, the Seagravilles donated 500 acres (2 km²) of their land to build an elementary school which became known as "Sagoville Elementary School" today. In 1907 they added another 500 acres (2 km²) to the school campus and named it "Seagrave High School". In 1924, local businessmen Willis Jameson and Harry Ladd agreed to buy all of the land around Sagoville for $30 per acre (1/4 mile²). They organized what would become known as the Texas Cotton Farming Co., Ltd., and began leasing out sections of their cotton plantations to farmers throughout Tarrant County for raising cotton crops. This system continued until 1971 when it was replaced by modern production methods involving irrigation systems and artificial fertilization using soybeans. In 1957, Sagoville Elementary School was renamed "John Fenton Middle School" in honor of Mrs. Seagrave who had been a major force in developing the school into what it is today. One year later, on Valentine's Day 1958, Mrs. Fenton dedicated her home at 601 Ector St., now used as classrooms and administrative offices for both schools, to serve as a museum honoring her husband's work with farming and education in Sagoville Community Schools during those early years before there were any formal schools hereabouts! Today this property forms one side of Park Lane Drive which runs through our downtown core - making us one world class educational community that preserves many important aspects about our history! Today much progress has been made since then including new buildings on this campus such as East Campus addition which houses administration offices & advanced science labs; Library wing complete with new Bookstore; Cafeteria wing also nearing completion; updated gymnasium/multi-purpose room/conference center &Restaurant complex on South Campus... so much more has been accomplished since John Fenton gave his gift back 50 yrs ago!
The town of Seagoville, Texas was founded on December 2, 1871. The name of the town is derived from the Spanish word "seguro" meaning "safe." The town was originally a sawmill and lumber mill community and has since grown into a small farming community with a population of around 400 residents.
