Seagoville, Texas is a small town located in the US state of Texas. The population was 1,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The Seagoville post office opened on December 1, 1876 and closed on October 31, 1959. The present postal address for Seagoville is PO Box 8443. Seagoville's namesake comes from Captain James Cook who landed at what is now Seagoville Island on November 11, 1779 during his third voyage with HMS Resolution and Discovery. Captain Cook named many islands after himself including New Zealand (Auckland), Pitcairn (Pitcairn Island), and Saint Helena ( Ascension Island). It should be noted that there was no island called "Seagoville" when Captain Cook arrived in 1779; the name was given to him by local fishermen because they could not find an island with the same name in their vicinity. In 1836, David Mallett built a cotton gin in what is now downtown Seagoville which became one of the largest cotton gins in Texas until it was destroyed by fire in 1902. In 1906, J C Watts started operating a water system for citizens of Dallas/Fort Worth with storage tanks brought upriver from Beaumont Lake to provide drinking water for locals and businesses beyond Dallas/Fort Worth limits. Watts' construction was so successful that he continue running it until his death in 1958 - making him one of only two Texans to achieve immortality through commercial enterprise! By 1907, Seagoville had its first school - Alumni School #1 - which operated until 1916 when it moved to new facilities on Second Street near I-30W . In 1922, Mrs Jane Dickson donated land south of Uptown Drive for a new church which would become Congregational United Methodist Church (CUMC) . The current building dating back to 1951 serves as both church and community center! In 1946 Dr John Hogg founded TX A&M Research Foundation Incorporated (), later known as Texas A&M University System (). Dr Hogg served as the first president of TAMU System from 1968-1974 & then again from 1984-1988 before retiring due to health issues; his wife also served as First Lady from 1988-1994 under Governor George H W Bush Before becoming Secretary of State she led several unsuccessful bids for Houston mayor After leaving government service she returned to her native Seagrams where she currently resides
