Seguin, Texas is a town located in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,693 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1879 by Captain John J. Seguin and his wife Anna Maria Seguin. The town was named after José de la Cruz y Gómez de Según, who led an expedition against the Comanche Indians in 1836. In 1886, General Antonio López Adobe became the first white settler of Seguin when he arrived from San Fernando Valley via stagecoach. settlers soon began arriving from all over the state of Texas looking for land to homestead. By 1902, Seguin had a post office and two churches: one Baptist and one Methodist. One year later, it had also acquired a school and two stores - the first in Medina County and second in Hudspeth County which served as its nucleus until 1906 when it seceded from Medina County to form its own government. In 1912-1913, during World War I (1914-18), Seguin were occupied by Mexican forces as part of their campaign to retake Fort Bliss from American forces; they burned all but three buildings within the town limits before finally withdrawing on January 8th 1917 The post office closed on October 5th 1925 due to lack of customers; it reopened on November 3rd that year with mail service only between Hudspeth and Glassell counties On July 15th 1951SeGUIN voted itself a new city charter with Mayor Henson as its first mayor In 1962SeGUIN repealed its city charter because Mayor Henson refused to renounce his Anglo Roman Catholicism
Seguin was founded in 1879 by John Seguin and his family. The town grew quickly, and by 1889 it had a post office, store, Methodist church, and school. In 1907 the town built its first jail and became an important railway station for the surrounding area. In 1917 Seguin hosted the Texas Constitutional Convention which determined the state's new government. In 1930 Seguin was renamed Addison after local philanthropist Addison W. Overstreet Jr.. The city annexed neighboring unincorporated communities of White Settlement, Mckenzie County, La Grange County (now Humble), Archer County (now Weatherford) in 1935 and Cedar Park in 1938. In 1951 Seguin developed a heavy industry complex known as "the Shipyards" at its center which included three shipbuilding plants; this development led to economic decline and is now being redeveloped into apartments.
