In 1907, Seguin became part of the new county of Hill County which was created from portions of Travis and Hill Counties. At that time it had a population of 805 people and included present-day Seguin as well as unincorporated areas such as Spring Creek Ranch and La Venta Gulch. The United States Census Bureau counted 1,947 people in Seguin at its 1910 census; this number decreased to 7,526 by 2000. In 1836, Seguin was founded by a group of Texans led by General Sam Houston. The small town grew rapidly and soon had a population of around 100 people. The town's growth continued until the early 1850s, when it began to decline as cotton production in Texas increased. By 1860, Seguin had only fifteen residents and was officially dissolved.
