The town grew rapidly and by 1910 there were twenty-four businesses in Socorro. By 1920, there were ninety businesses in SocorROZinc code and it boasted a population of 2,500 residents In 1954, when Hudspeth County was established, SocorROZinc code became its own zip code and has continued to grow ever since with many new development projects throughout the years including an ice rink that opened in 2003 Today, Socorro remains a vibrant community with close bonds between its citizens and their local government which helps keep everything running smoothly

The town of Socorro, Texas was founded in 1836 by the Mexican colonists. The name derived from a Spanish word meaning "saddle" because the original settlers were horsemen who rode their horses to trade goods with Native Americans. In 1839, the United States took possession of Mexico and began to colonize new land. One of these immigrants, John C. Fremont, wanted to establish a market for his new country’s fresh produce so he founded the first store in Socorro in 1840. The town grew quickly and by 1846 it had a population of over 100 people. By 1850, Socorro had become an important commercial center with its own post office and several stores. It also became home to some of America’s most skilled artisans including leatherworkers, goldsmiths and shoemakers. In 1861, following the American Civil War, Socorro began to experience widespread crop failures due to drought and lack of rainfall. This led to increased poverty among local residents and a decline in commerce which contributed significantly to the towns decline beginning in 1865. However, despite these problems, Socorro continued to grow until 1880 when it reached its peak population size with over 1,500 people living thereabouts. However during this time period as well as other periods throughout its history there was significant violence and social unrest which has caused occasional blockades and skirmishes between rival gangs vying for control over local businesses or neighborhoods

In 1849, Socorro County was organized. The county seat was located at San Felipe. In 1907, the county was renamed Socorro County after José de Jesús "Chico" Revilla, a naturalized Mexican American who had fought for Texas in the Mexican-American War and in the Texan Revolution.
