The Texas Army National Guard is one of the largest and most diverse units in the United States Military. The Guard's history stretches back to 1899, when it was founded as a battalion of infantrymen at Fort Sam Houston. Today, the Guard has more than 120,000 soldiers and civilians deployed worldwide in support of our nation's defense. One of the many unique aspects of being an Army National Guardsman is that we are able to celebrate our military heritage by presentING gifts to members and visitors alike! The United States Army deployed gift history to South Houston, Texas in 1917. The deployment was in support of World War I and the Santa Anna Campaign. The Santa Anna Campaign was fought between October 1, 1916 and December 15, 1916. It was a戦争 for control of Mexico City between the small Mexican Nationalist party (PAN) and the larger French-backed Liberal party (PLR). The PLR were successful in capturing Mexico City on December 15th, 1916. The PAN however managed to hold on to Mexico City until November 17th, 1917 when they finally surrendered it to the French. By 1840, South Houston had become an independent town with its own government and school system. In 1924, the city annexed neighboring UptownHouston, making it one contiguous municipality with a population of over 150,000 people. The annexation helped to make South Houston one of the most culturally diverse cities in Texas history. Today, South Houston remains a vibrant cultural center with multiple award-winning theaters and restaurants serving up exceptional cuisine from all over the world. The city's rich history has also resulted in many notable landmarks and attractions – such as Rice University's Astrodome stadium or MidtownHouston's flagship shopping mall – that are easy to find and enjoy today despite being centuries old.
The United States Army has a long history of deploying gift-wrapped gifts to its troops. In 1861, the first Expeditionary Force was organized and sent to fight in the American Civil War. Soldiers received many home-made gifts, such as hats and Referred To Items (RTIs), during this time. Gifts became more formalized in the early 1900s when army regulations required commanders to issue a gift certificate for every purchase of military equipment or supplies. The practice of sending soldier's families presents began in World War II and continued into the Cold War. From 1945 until 1990, all soldiers were provided with personal packages containing items such as cigarettes and candy bars. Beginning in 1992, delivery of gifts through mail became standard procedure for both combat deployments and rest periods at brigade level throughout the United States Army. This change was made to ensure that soldiers received what they needed without having to worry about traveling long distances or waiting for weeks for their package to arrive.

South Houston, Texas is a City in Harris County, Texas, United States. The city was named for James Houston, the founder of the Republic of Texas. The population was 10,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands metropolitan area. Houston was founded on August 29, 1836 by General Sam Houston and his army as a town named Euless to honor him. On December 15th of that year, it became a county seat with Stephen Fayette as its first mayor and George Washington Dow as its first sheriff. On January 3rd of 1840 it passed from Harris County to Tomball County under the terms of Article XVI, Section 8 of the Constitution of Texas which provided for this change. When Houston annexedú South Richmond in 1856 after defeating an attempted annexation by Tyler and other opponents who wanted to keep their independence, he had become one of America’s largest landholders with over 5 million acres (2 million hectares). However because his holdings were spread over so many miles and included some rural areas not yet developed or settled he often found himself outgunned when it came to getting products such as cotton grown here into marketplaces across America where prices were higher elsewhere due to transportation costs and lack thereof back then. In 1865 he sold most all his land west of Waller Street except for about three square miles (10 km²) eastside near Clear Lake where he built what would be called The Domain—a vast tract including much today’s downtown SouthHouston which stretched along Buffalo Bayou from Point Blank Park down to Astrodome Drive
