Southlake is a city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 585 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The city takes its name from nearby Southlake Lake and Southlake Dam, both of which are located in the city. The first recorded settlement in what is now Southlake was by French explorers on November 3, 1718 when they named it "Jamestown." In 1872, General John C. Frémont passed through this area on his way to Fort Worth and made landfall here on July 12, 1872 as part of his exploratory journey southward along the Great Texas Road (now I-10). This event is celebrated each year with a free festival called "John C. FrémontFest" which takes place at the city's downtown square park during July 6 - 11th EDT). In 1902, local businessman Archibald Cox merged two small communities – Springwood and Rocky Mount – into one municipality known as Southlake. He donated land for municipal services including a water system and flood control system that still serve today. In 1911, Mayor John Fenton promoted annexation of Springwood so that it would become a part of Southlake proper following an act of Congress that granted cities such as Dallas and Austin their own charter municipalities within newly formedDallas County! A large cotton gin remained operational until 1922 when it burned down due to lack of gas fuel to power it; fortunately no residents were injured or any property damage resulted! In 1927 rumors circulated around town about an oil well being drilled near Interstate 25 & Elm Street but nothing came of it until 1932 when Corpus Christi resident Waco Moore discovered oil while prospecting off Highway 90 near Corpus Christi City Limits; however because only state waters could be used to surface oil wells then production ceased due to pollution concerns! Southlake experienced another boom period during World War II with numerous businesses opening up including munitions plants like Pine Bluff Arsenal Ammunition Plant #2 which became known as "The Steel Pit" after production began there in 1942; also Manufacturers Warehouse warehouse #1 became known as "The Ghetto" after housing units were built there for workers who processed Allied arms throughout World War II! SouthLake's Manufacturing heyday slowed down with the end of World War II but didn't stop completely; several heavy industrial plants continued to operate until they closed or converted over to light manufacturing around 1967 although some remnant operations still remain today like Jack Dempsey’s old boxing gym where you can find signed memorabilia inside from days gone by! It wasn't until 1981 when Houston-based Texaco announced plans to build an open-air refinery just east of town center on what is now Uptown Parkway across from Trinity University (the original site for Dole Food Company) that things went really turbocharged for SouthLake Residents who quickly responded forming groups/ committees/etcetera to try and prevent development right next door!! However even if we did manage to haltTexaco’s plan Unfortunately our efforts would not last long because soon thereafter construction began anyway!! What followed was more than just neighborhood opposition:residential demolition began immediately afterwards……………………………………….

This annexation has been met with criticism from some residents who feel that it will increase traffic and parking problems in Southlake while also increasing taxes for the municipality which they believe will not be used for infrastructure improvements such as roads or public safety but instead be used to subsidize Live Oak Township's properties
