Stafford, Texas is a town located in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,883 at the 2010 census. According to the 2000 census, Stafford had a population of 1,527. The post office which was established in 1879 and closed in 1966 served the community until it was reopened in 2001 by the Stafford Independent School District. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Stafford has a humid subtropical climate (Cfa). The first white person to visit Stafford was James Bowie on October 25th, 1874 while he and two men were exploring what is now known as Bowie Rancho de la Luna. After landing on an island near present day Airport Road and Badon Creek they built a small cabin there for themselves and began trading with native Indians. From this small base they started making contact with other parts of north Texas and Mexico City. On February 20th 1875 James Bowie married Hilda Gonzales who also came from Mexico City with him when he left for America. They set up camp near present day Airport Rd/Badon Creek again starting their new life in north Texas where it would be fleeting but significant event for all those around them as this was their first family together since coming overland from Mexico City all those years ago! In 1880 John Wesley Hardin decided to move his cattle herd from Missouri into what is nowJohnson County after finding good land there for them including some within current-day Stafford Township along Badon Creek which led him to name his property "stafford" after one of his horses that had been born thereabouts years before! Stafford, Texas is a tiny town located in the Hudspeth County seat of Stafford. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls-Arlington, TX metropolitan area. The first settler in Stafford was John Cockerill who came to this area in 1836. He and his family founded a cabin on what is now known as Main Street. In 1837, J.C. land grantees including Elisha Cook included Stafford within their holdings for $1 per acre (equal to $10 per square mile). A post office was established at Stafford in 1838 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1920. In 1840, Austin and James Hance bought 160 acres of land east of present day Stafford from Nicholas Gibbs for $10 per acre ($160 = $1600 today). They named their new community "Hanceville" after James Hance's older brother Austin who had been killed during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). After three years of development, they sold all their land except for about 25 acres which they donated to the town for use as a cemetery. In 1845, Nancie Griggs married Wiley Post and moved to Dwight from Illinois where she had been living with her parents since age 10 before coming to Kansas Territory with them when she turned 16 years old on November 12th, 1843. She soon bore him two children: Jarrett Post Griggs (born October 9th, 1847) and Alice griggs Post (born December 14th 1850), both citizens of Wichita Falls by birthright but residents of Dwight for many years thereafter until their deaths there at age 96 and 95 respectively on July 8th and September 3rd 1979 respectively.) The townspeople built a schoolhouse/cabinetmaker shop on Main Street between 1850–1854 while also constructing dwellings around it; these structures still stand today as part of thetown'shistoric core . By 1870 most people were working outside the town limits as farmhands or local merchants ; however some did remain within the limits Government buildings became available starting around 1900 keeping staff small but meeting continued needs such as firefighting
