Stephenville is a small town in Texas, located about an hours drive from Houston. The population of Stephenville was 9,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name " Stephenville" comes from Stephen F. Austin, the first president of Texas and one of its delegates to the United States Congress. The history of Stephenville goes back to 1836 when it was known as "Piney Creek Settlement". In 1839, a group of Texans decided to move into what would become Stephens County after purchasing two pieces of land fromritz brothers for $4 per acre. The original settlers were John Auld and his brother James Auld who founded the village on a plantation named Piney Creek near present day Stephenville. By 1840, there were already over 100 residents living in Stephens County including some 20 families who owned slaves. In 1845, Colonel John Troup donated land east of present day Grimes Manor for the purpose of developing a town called Stephenville which would be named in honor of General Sam Houston - one of America's most famous heros during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). On July 15th, 1847, by orderof President Polk, General Houston laid out Stephens County on 4 square rods with streets running northwest to southeast and center to periphery with a total length estimated at 54 miles or 120 kilometers (16 miles or 30 kilometers). Houston's donation had come about because he believed that if Texas could succeed in becoming an American state without slave labor then other states should too and he wanted to contribute his share towards this goal. At that time slavery was legal in all but 12 southern U.S counties and although many people objected to it they did not want their county administered by people who supported it temperamentally speaking either politically or financially speaking given that cotton farming constituted 90%+of overall economic activity within each county at that time outside onlyHouston’s own pockets – creating large disparities between rich landowners like himself while poor farmers continued working long hours under difficult conditions for little return on investment while agricultural production slumped due largely to lack internal market demand rather than natural droughts etc.. On December 24th 1861 Stonewall Jackson attacked Fort Sumter freeing 1 million enslaved African Americans across plantations throughout South Carolina before finally achieving victory over Confederate forces at Appomattox Court House four days later leaving 1/3rdousand men dead including many white soldiers captured along with their cannons and supplies! This event forever changed America’s view towards slavery & opened up millions more opportunities for emancipation throughout Americas future!!! So “Yes sir Mister” George Washington Carver spoke truthfully when he said “If I may make so bold as say so – Slavery is wrong – It isn’t right now constitutionally but I believe it can be changed & it has been changing – even among those who are its biggest advocates”??? As we enter into our current day racial climate where images like these continue daily across social media platforms both pro & con; why wouldn't we take note? After all if these sentiments are true then why haven't things progressed any further…..?

Stephenville was a small, agricultural town in north-central Texas during the 1800s. The early settlers were farmers who arrived in the area in the late 18th century. Stephenville was named for Captain Stephen Houston, an early settler and namesake of Houston County. The first post office was established in 1798, and the first store opened in 1800. The town grew rapidly during the 1840s due to its location on the railway line between Dallas and Austin. During that time, it became one of the most important centres in northwest Texas for cotton production. In 1856, Stephenville was burned by Indians as part of a campaign against Texan settlers. However, this event did not significantly affect its growth or development; within a few years, another post office had been established at Stephensville and development continued apace. In 1865, Stephenville became county seat of Houston County after it was placed within that jurisdiction by state law. During World War II, Stephenville played an important role as a munitions plant located near Waco (now Wichita Falls). That facility produced munitions such as gasoline bombs and napalm used by Nazi Germany during World War II. The plant closed completely shortly before liberation in 1945; however, some remnants of it still lie today in nearby Richards University Park across from Walnut Creek Elementary School
