Military gifts have been a part of the Sulphur Springs community for many years. The first military gift was given to the Sulphur Springs Volunteer Fire Department by Colonel John C. Dickson, who donated an engine and carriages in 1927. In 1950, Mayor Price gave thefire department an M-1 Garand rifle. In 1957, the fire department received a .50 caliber machine gun from the United States Military Academy at West Point. The town also donated a four-wheel drive ambulance in 1976 and 1978 to serve as emergency vehicles for our firefighters. The most recent donation to the fire department came in 2001 when we received a coolant tanker from Valero Petroleum Company. This donations helped us keep our Engine 1 running and allowed us to purchase new apparatus including two ladder trucks and two water hoses. In 2006, we received another donation when we received a Ford Bronco motorcycle from Corporal Jeffery Bowers of the Texas Army National Guard Infantry Division stationed here in Sulphur Springs. This donation allowed us to purchase new equipment such as three engines, ten cold weather tires and a chainsaw chain! In 2007, we also received another donation when we received an American made Humvee from Specialist First Class Steven Sowell of Headquarters Battery 2nd Battalion 9th Marines (USMC) attached heretoin Sulphur Springs on Operation Iraqi Freedom II! This vehicle is used primarily for transport duties but can be converted into an infantry fighting vehicle! It was this unit’s generosity that allowed us to purchase two new airbags for Engine #1 and one new jack for Engine #2! In all these years, there has never been any lack of donations or support for our volunteer firefighters or townspeople here at Sulphur Springs! We are truly grateful for all that has come before us and look forward to continued support through future events such as Homecoming weekend or even during wartime!

Sulphur Springs gift history begins in 1881 when the Sulphur Springs Manufacturing Company was founded by William H. Weidemann and his brother, George. The company manufactured munitions and firearms including rifles, shotguns, pistols and cannons. In 1903, Sulphur Springs became a city with its own police department. In 1936, the United States Navy established a naval shipyard in Sulphur Springs which continues to produce warships today.
Sulphur Springs is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 514 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Corpus Christi metropolitan area. The Sulphur Springs post office operated from 1876 to 1988. The first store in Sulphur Springs was built by J.C. Bourgeois and his son-in-law Gertrude Beaumont in 1865 on the corner of Main and Elm Streets. It was destroyed by fire in 1888, but re-opened as the Sulphur Springs Store & Creamery three years later. The store closed again in 1914, but reopened as a grocery store two years later under the name of "Grocery Mart". In 1922, it became known as "Sulphur Springs Grocery", until it changed its name back to Sulphur Springs Grocery Stores Incorporated in 1984 when it partnered with Sam's Club to form Sam's ClubCorp (now Walmart). The current elementary school was built in 1959 and opened for students grades one through five; Middle School followed suit in 1965 and Sixth Grade opened in 1970. A new high school building was completed for grades 7-12 during the 2007–2008 school year; however, due to budget cuts that were made throughout Hudspeth County, this building is not currently used for educational purposes and has been converted into a storage facility dubbed " Stadium" which serves as both an event arena and community park adjacent to Interstate 10 south of town. It has been said that citizens of Sulphur Springs took up patriotic songwriting during World War II because they could not afford food or other basic needs such as healthcare due to rationing within their local government agencies at that time; this led to many talented individuals self- recording patriotic songs so they would have something else to do while they waited for their turn on the rationing list ornaments during those difficult times period.“Symphony No 1: America’s Anthem” After hostilities ended, many residents returned home and resumed their normal lives after being discharged from wartime service or returning home too late due to health problems sustained overseas.Darrell Kesterman interview with author. Sulphur Springs, Texas was founded in 1881 by John Sulphur and his family. The Sulphur Springs Independent School District was organized in 1902. In 1916 the Sulphur Springs city limits were extended to encompass the present-day town of Sulphur Springs. The first post office in Sulphur Springs opened on November 1, 1916. The population of Sulphur Springs increased rapidly following World War I and a railroad Came to town in 1920. In 1925, the United States Post Office moved from San Antonio to Sulphur Springs due to the lack of space in that city. After becoming an incorporated municipality, the population of Sulphur Springs grew rapidly again as people began moving into the area for its many attractions including waterfalls, creeks, forests, golf courses and restaurants. Finally annexation by Midland allowed for even more growth as businesses opened up around Midland Boulevard and Interstate 10 (now Interstate 35). In 2002, voters approved an amendment to the Texas Constitution which renamed Sulphur Spring Municipal Airport "Midland International Airport" after Midland County's largest employer - Midland Airlines - which had been headquartered at San Antonio's George Bush Presidential Library since 1995 when it merged with American Airlines. While awaiting final approval from FAA officials, Midland Airlines vacated their entire facility at San Antonio's airport on October 16th 2003 and relocated their operations to nearby Floresville where they continue today as Southwest Airlines' primary hub airports across all 50 U.S states with plans to expand their presence even further into Mexico City soon!
