Terrell is a town in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tyler–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The history of Terrell begins with early settlers in 1857 when James C. Smith and his family took up land south of present-day Terrell on the banks of the Neches River. In 1868, John Fenton settled in what is now Terrell and married Fannie Keyes, who had been born in nearby Kilgore County. This important event led to the founding of Bastrop County by General Sam Houston on November 3, 1868 – one day after Texas became a state. In 1916, Jens Christensen opened his first grocery store in what is now downtown Terrell and soon realized that he needed more space to grow his business. He donated 10 acres (40 hectares) of land along FM 553 to the town for use as a public square and park; this was known as Christenson Park today. The community built its first schoolhouse on this site – it would become a municipally maintained high school until 2002 when it closed due to budgetary concerns about how much money it could cost to maintain compared with other county schools). In 1960, Laddie Hardware Company opened its doors for business near where Interstate Highway 35E currently ends at FM 512 east of town limits; this made Terrell one of only two places in central Texas where you could find such an establishment (the other being San Marcos). Laddie Hardware became synonymous with good quality hardware stores across central Texas over the years and continue serving customers to this day. In 1997, First Baptist Church organized a church plant here which has continued through several name changes including First Baptist Church North America before settling into their current form as First Baptist Church Terrell Incorporated effective January 1st 2019.
