By 1910, Terrell had become one of the leading coffee communities in the United States. The name "Terrell" originated from the Cherokee word "a’teri’," meaning " place where we hunted." In 1881, when Mexican War veteran General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna surrendered at Huntsville, he and his family moved to what is now Terrell from their original home near San Augustine. Terrell's location provides excellent hunting opportunities for deer, turkey, hogs, and other game animals. From its location on State Highway 183 between Huntsville and Fort Worth it has easy access to both Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 287 which provide access to all kinds of shopping malls or major highways anywhere in the town limits
