The Coast Guard has been in Texas since 1879. The first coast guard station was located in Texarkana, and the present day station is one of the most frequented by the Coast Guard. It is home to a variety of law enforcement and search and rescue tasks as well as providing support for local firefights. The first inter-state volunteers were recruited from eastern Canada to help with coastal patrols inTexarkana. In 1915, the first full time coast guard station was established in Texarkana while another station was opened at Lubbock in 1916. The stations became operational under the command of Captain John A. McConnell who served until 1935. In 1942, Captain Harry Waddell took command of the Texarkana Station and he led it through World War II until his retirement in 1945. During his tenure, shore patrol duties were combined with Search And Rescue operations which played a significant role during that period when air evacuation was difficult due to bad weather conditions often lasting weeks or even months at a time. Since its inception, the Coast Guard Station Texarkana has provided important assistance to citizens on both our state’s coastline and offshore waters including responding to emergencies such as hurricanes Katrina and Rita, rescuing people stranded on vessels during storms like Harvey or Irma, acting as an essential part of Homeland Security initiatives like President Trump's executive order suspending travel into America from seven terror hotspots; safely escorting commercial vessels through Corpus Christi Harbour; aiding law enforcement efforts such as hostage takeovers or chemical spills; responding to natural disasters such as tornadoes or floods; providing support for military forces conducting surveillance missions over our homeland; and more!

The Coast Guard has been a part of American society for over 120 years. The first coast guard service was established in 1915 as the United States Revenue Cutter Service. In 1968, the Coast Guard became an all-volunteer branch of the National Defense Force and was reorganized as a separate service, known as the Coast Guard Reserve. In 1990, the U.S. Congress passed the Coastal Zone Management Act which created new responsibilities for the Coast Guard with respect to coastal zones including energy development, fishing and boating safety, and boat traffic control purposes. The role of the Coast Guard has since grown more complex with respect to homeland security issues such as counterterrorism and border crossings. Today, there are three main components to the Coast Guard - The Commandant's Department which oversees all aspects of military-like operations; Headquarters Sector which is responsible for providing perimeter security along U.S coasts; and 16 Districts each consisting of multiple stations that provide support for homeland defense missions like search and rescue or migrant apprehension. Each district also contains a station offshore that provides assistance on either land or water when needed. Additionally, there are numerous ships that serve as both training vessels and crisis response assets primarily inside America's territorial waters but also outside those boundaries when necessary in order to respond quickly to incidents within our Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Texarkana is a small town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,919 at the 2010 census. It lies just east of the Wichita Mountains and about 120 miles (193 km) south of Dallas. It was named for Texarkana, which was then a small Indian settlement on the Arkansas River. The first settlers arrived in 1836 and began trading with the Comanche and Kiowa people who lived along the river.
