The most famous coffeehouse in Texas City is The Coffee House, which was founded in 1912 by John Hargrave and his brother-in-law, W.H. McNaught. The Coffee House was one of the first places in the area to offer iced coffee. It also served as a meeting place for local businesses and organizations. In 1943, Harry Baer opened The Dutchman Coffee House on Main Street in Texas City, which became an important center for Vietnamese immigrants to learn English and find work in the United States. In 1951, Don Behrendt purchased The Dutchman from Harry Baer and continued its tradition of quality coffee service and support for local businesses. Behrendt was instrumental in helping to develop the current incarnation of Texan Coffee Company – now known as Starbucks – within Texan City limits. Today, Texan Coffee Company continues to serve delicious espresso drinks with fresh milk or ice cream toppings at its flagship location on Main Street inside Of America Casino Resort & Spa (formerly known as Drexel University).

In the late 1800s, Texas City was a thriving city located in what is now Hidalgo County, Texas. The city was founded by movement of settlers from northern Mexico to the Lone Star State. The first post office in Texas City was established on December 7, 1881. In 1907, the city became the site of the state fairgrounds, which remain an important tourist attraction today. The fairgrounds were also home to one of the largest amusement parks in Texas at that time. In 1935, Texas City was torn down and replaced with a new development called "The Lakes".
