The USAF has a rich and varied history with the gift of airforce. The origins of the USAF date back to World War I when America entered into an agreement with Great Britain to send planes and pilots to fight in that war. In 1923, President Harding signed the National Security Act which created the Department of Defense. The Directorate of Air Service was established within this department in 1926 as part of efforts to control and arm American air forces. In 1941, during World War II, Congress passed the National Security Act which increased military spending by 50%. This increase allowed for the creation of two new branches within the USAF: Strategic Air Command (SAC) and Tactical Air Command (TAC). SAC was formed to provide strategic bombing support while TAC was responsible for providing operational air power throughout all US military regions. In 1945, both SAC and TAC were merged into one organization called “Air Forces United States” (AFU). AFU played an important role in supporting Allied victory during World War II by providing fighter aircraft, bombers, missiles, radar systems, training camps and other services. AFU also became responsible for planning future wars by creating plans known as strategic plans which would guide US policy towards specific enemies or conflicts. These plans continue to be used today to plan USAF operations around the world. Additionally, AFU developed a program known as Project Maven which aimed to create a remote sensing system that could track objects across large areas without ever leaving Earth’s surface. This technology is still being used today by USAF members located all over the world in order to track enemy activity

The Colony was a small town in Vernon County, Texas, just south of Amarillo. It was established in the late 1800s by white supremacists who wanted to build a white society on the side of a mountain. The town quickly became known for its racism and hate crimes against black people. In 1903, local officials ordered thetown's all-white school to be closed because black children were not being given an equal education. The town's residents responded with violence and vandalism against black businesses and homes. In 1907, after years of riots and protests, the Vernon County Commissioners voted to integrate the town's schools. The colony eventually died out due to its racist policies and lack of resources.
