Tomball coffee history can be traced back to 1872 when the first coffee beans were roasted in Tomball. At that time, the town was a small farming community and the only means of purchasing goods was by wagon or horseback. The first café opened in 1875 and served as a local landmark for many years. In 1925, Tomball became an independent city and began developing its own social and economic infrastructure. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Company began serving coffee from their newly constructed roasting plant in Tomball in 1928. In 1957, the company merged with Roasters Incorporated, which continues to serve coffee today. In 1978, Tomball became part of El Paso County and ceased being an independent city. Today, Tomballs vibrant cultural scene is known for its art galleries, restaurants, nightlife, and progressive politics.
