The Tyler, Texas Coast Guard was formed on December 3rd, 1915 when the two Marine Corps battalions were combined to form a single command. The first Coast Guard station inTyler was established at the mouth of the Colorado River. With its present facilities and personnel, the Tyler Coast Guard has been conducting patrolling and security functions along the Texas Gulf coast since 1935. In 1941, a new station was built just east of downtown Tyler to accommodate an increasing number of coastal guard personnel and their equipment. The original building is still in use today as the Headquarters Building for the Tyler Coast Guard. Throughout its history, the Tyler Coast Guard has awarded numerous distinguished medals and distinctions including being named one of "America's Most Retired Law Enforcement Agencies" by The National Law Journal in 1993. In recent years, assaults against maritime assets have become more common occurrences along our coastline. As part of its efforts to prevent such incidents from happening, the Tyler Coast Guard has increased patrols and increased staffing levels on both its Station East End and Station West End locations. Additionally, Operation Neptune's Spear – which was initiated in response to an increase in piracy off our Texas coast – saw additional resources brought into play by both stations within days of each other. It is through these operations that we are able to keep our citizens safe while they enjoy their local businesses or enjoy some peace-and-quiet ashore during summertime activities such as swimming or fishing

Tyler, Texas is a city in Gregg County, Texas, United States. The population was 12,746 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Gregg County. Tyler was founded in 1836 by General James Fenton and became an incorporated town in 1887. The city was named after Ulysses S. Grant, who served as President of the United States from 1869 to 1877 and as Governor of Georgia from 1871 to 1875. In 1911, Tyler Industrial Park was named for oil tycoon J. P. Morgan Jr., who had donated land for the park near his corporate headquarters on Second Street SW in downtown Tyler. Morgan died in 1918 and his family did not continue to gift land for the park until it was dedicated in 1961 by then-Mayor Lamar Alexander with a plaque reading "In Memory of J.P." In 1915 the first store opened in Tyler when Wm Crain & Sons began selling ice cream from a truck on North Main Street NW between First and Second Streets NW. That same year cotton gin output reached 1 million lbs (500 metric tons). In 1916 Wm Hite & Sons established what is now known as Hite Cotton Mills which processed 830 bales/day of cotton into finished fabric products including twill cloths, broadcloth fabrics, flannel pajamas and other items used by consumers all over America during the post-Civil War years
