The Victoria, Texas Army Post Office has a rich history dating back to 1892. It was first established as the old military post office on the east side of town. The original building, which is now known as the Old War Fort Museum, served as Headquarters for the First Regiment of Texas Cavalry and later became Headquarters for the Second Regiment of Texas Cavalry. In 1916, then-Governor Alfonso Gomez signed an act authorizing creation of a state militia and providing for its organization at Victoria. On January 1, 1917, the first members of the Victoria Militia were sworn in at our post office. At that time there were only five officers and fifty men in our unit. In 1962 we would become part of The National Guard Citizen Brigade when it was created statewide by Acts 263 and 264 respectively. Since 1990 we have been home to The Victoria Armory where we display artifacts from our military past along with other remembrances from local history

The Texas Army National Guard was organized on December 15, 1862. The unit was activated at Huntsville, Texas as the 9th Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. The regiment served in the Mexican-American War and part of the American Civil War. On July 1, 1897, the regiment was redesignated as Company A (9th Texans) and deployed to Mexico City for a UNIFIL peacekeeping mission. On October 12, 1898, during Mexican-American War commemorative Day, Company A participated in a skirmish with Bravo Company of Mexicans near Monterrey. During this engagement, one soldier became separated from his unit and later succumbed from wounds received while trying to cross over into Mexico. The company lost three other soldiers during this deployment: Pvt Jesse Bogan (killed), Pvt John Pemberton (wounded/captured), and Sgt George Hatton (murdered). It also suffered several casualties among its own ranks; 10 men were killed or died of wounds in action while serving in Mexico City duty. In 1903-1904 Company A served with distinction at Fort Worth’s Camp Bowie during World War I hostilities against Germany and Austria-Hungary. In 1918 it participated in the United States invasion of Belgium as part of Operation Market Garden along with other units from Texas including an artillery battalion captained by Major General Lew Wallace which resulted in about 100 casualties including six officers killed outright when their cannons went off range during bombardment rehearsal exercise on open terrain near Liège les Antilles Belgian town - one month after America had entered World War I fighting for Europe
Victoria, Texas is a small town in the county of Victoria,Texas. It is located on the border of Nueces and Bexar counties. The population was 3,955 at the 2010 census. The community was founded in 1879 by white settlers who named it after Queen Victoria of England. The first school opened in 1881 and the first store was built in 1883. In 1886, a post office was established and within five years, Victoria had a hotel and two churches. By 1897, the town had three stores and four homes. In 1902, a dam was constructed to hold water for irrigation purposes and by 1916 there were six businesses operating in Victoria. In 1929, Victoria became an independent municipality with its own government but communication between the townspeople and the larger municipality remained difficult until 1958 when a new fiber optic cable arrived to provide improved internet service to all residents ofVictoria
