The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of deploying gifts to friends and allies in times of need. Watauga, Texas is a small town in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. It is located on the banks of the Trinity River and has a population of about 27,000. Watauga was named after General Andrew Jackson's father, James Jackson. The town was first settled in 1836 by Scots-Irish immigrants who had come for ranching and Farming opportunities. The first post office in Watauga opened in 1837. In 1865, Watauga became one of twenty towns that were merged into Dallas to form the city of Dallas.
The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the people of South Korea in December, 1951. The gift was an F-4 Phantom jet fighter aircraft. This aircraft was donated by General Curtis LeMay, then the Commander of U.S. Strategic Air Forces in Europe, and flew over Japan during Operation Blue Thunder to drop supplies to Korean troops fighting against Japanese forces. The KAF unit that received this aircraft was the 5th Fighter Wing at Osan Air Base in South Korea. This gift is significant not only because it is one of only two international gifts ever given by the United States to a South Korean military unit – the other being an F-86 Sabre Jetfighter donation from General Hoyt S. Vandenberg III, Jr., Commander for US Special Operations Command in Southeast Asia on 7 July 1968 – but also because it marks one of many USAF contributions to the development of South Korea’s air force since its independence from Japan in 1948. In 1950, when North Korea invaded South Korea, the United States had no choice but to send combat forces into that country as part of our defense strategy vis-à-vis North Korea; however, there were concerns about whether or not our planes would be able to reach our targets due to weather conditions over North Korea andJapan at that time (the jetstream could barely support these types of missions). To address this issue we decided upon donating four American F4 Phantoms which would fly directly into enemy airspace and drop supplies right onto their battlefield! This generous gesture resulted in major supply chain improvements for both Koreas as well as morale boosts for our troops fighting against Japanese forces who were still holding back Koreans while they built up their own army!

Watauga, Texas is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. Watauga is located on the east side of the Trinity River and it is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Watauga were Frenchmen in 1736. A group of Methodist missionaries arrived in 1837 and began preaching to the local Indians. They built a church in 1838 and named it St. John's Episcopal Church after John Wesley (1785-1847). In 1865, construction began on the Watauga Dam which completed in 1870. The dam provided flood control for much of Williamson County and its tributaries until it was destroyed by a flash flood in 1979. In 1871, Will Rogers visited Watauga while he was performing his "Amoral Man" tour through Texas. He said that he "found nothing here worth caring about." However, during his later visits he developed close friendships with some of the town's residents and continued writing about them throughout his career as an American comedian and actor. In 1922, Rogers donated land to make way for a library on which Watauga High School would be founded; this gift remains one of the largest donations ever made to any school in Texas history. One notable resident from Watauga throughout its history has been Cissy Brewer (1911-2002), an American singer who spent her early childhood living near Dallas before moving to Fort Worth with her family when she was four years old; she later became nationally known as a pop singer and actress before dying at age 79 from ovarian cancer caused by environmental damage done during her career as a concert promoter
The town of Watauga first organized in 1836 as a post office and trading center on the banks of the Waco River. The town grew quickly, and by 1851 it had a population of 350 residents. In 1865, Watauga became the capital of Texas when Austin was erected as the state's new capital. By 1870, Watauga had a population of 1,000 residents and was home to four schools: one for boys and one for girls. The town also boasted an arsenal, two churches, several stores, and alegraph station. In 1881, Watauga was renamed Austin after General George B. Austin who served as Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court from 1876-1882.
