The Marine Corps has deployed a number of gift items in Watauga, Texas during the past few decades. As part of their basic training process, they would march from Camp Pendleton down to Fort Worth for two weeks of liberty before returning to camp where they would start their next rotation. Because Battalion Landing Teams (BLT) were responsible for supplying most of the infantry battalions assigned to Marine units outside America’s major coastal cities, donations from local citizens became important early on in Marine history. In fact, one BLT donated 5 busesloadfuls of clothes and equipment to be used by battalion commanders ashore as they prepared for combat operations overseas. The generosity continued throughout World War II as Marines fought across North Africa, Europe, Asia Minor (including Okinawa), South Korea, and Guam; furthermore, many civilians shared in combat rations through donations such as gasoline or ammunition boxes filled with foodstuffs such as breadfruit or eggs that could be eaten without getting sick). Watauga is a city in Sumter County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Watauga was founded as a small town in 1867 and incorporated as a city in 1907. It is located on the Arkansas River. The original Watauga settlement was located on the present day east side of the Arkansas River just north of its mouth on Red Fork Creek. The town growth began due to merchants transporting goods downriver from Fort Worth and other towns near the river's confluence with the Trinity River. In 1867, James Auld (1815-1890), an experienced trader and entrepreneur, purchased land northwest of Watauga for $5 per acre from John Witherspoon (1795-1868). He named his new community Watauga after his childhood home in Scotland—a place known for its lochs that provided drinking water for many people including himself and his father. James Auld developed some of what is now downtown Watauga while others built homes on Roundabout Hill or along Duck creek which flowed through their lots into the river below. The first store opened in 1870 and by 1872 there were 14 businesses operating within Watauga limits alone! Aldred's store had two floors with a variety of items such as groceries, clothings, hardware, shoes and boots; also there was an upstairs bedroom where he could sleep when not selling goods. In 1871 Aldred sell his interest in Watauga to John Witherspoon Jr., who renamed it "Watonga City". By 1880 there were twenty businesses operating withinwatonga boundaries with 3 stories! By 1910 only 5 survived but they continued to operate until 1970! In 1907, cities were allowed under state law to be incorporate via an act passed by Congress. On July 24th that year Wattagouche City entered into existence as a result of this incorporation ordinance. Wattagouche City prospered thanks to increased trade with Fort Worth due to prohibition laws placed upon alcoholic beverages at that time; however these days few reminders remain of this important early history aside from one examples: A plaque at Third Street crossing over Duck creek commemorates Prohibition era activity at that location!
