Waxahachie is a town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The town was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1851 as a small community on the banks of Buffalo Bayou. The name Waxahachie comes from an Iroquois word meaning "place where there are trees." By 1865, the population had grown to 1,228 and by 1870 it had reached 2,000. The post office was established in 1875 and remained in operation until it closed in 1963. During World War II, Waxahachie became one of the largest wartime communities in Texas with over 1000000 citizens serving in the military. In 1969, local businessmen William Epps and Jack McGee formed Waxahachie Management Company to manage land within the town limits for development purposes such as casinos and shopping malls. In 1984, Texaco merged with Amoco Oil Corporation which created what would become one ofTexaco's biggest acquisitions ever - Waco-based Sam Houston National Forest (SHNFOR). With SHNFOR under Texaco's control now less than two miles from its corporate headquarters north of downtown Dallas – including more than three million acres inside Texaco's original corporate boundaries – Waxahachie soon became known as "the Chevron capital of Texas." In 1990 Texaco divested itself of Sam Houston National Forest assets within TXO Services Inc., making Waxahachie once again autonomous with its own management corporation - but still subject to Texaco regulations. Despite this autonomy however, despite efforts by other businesses such as Barnes & Noble and Hobby Lobby to open their own stores within town limits during this time period – all were denied due to zoning restrictions set forth by then-Mayor Ernesto Burgess – waxahachiereians generally continued to rely on Texaco for most essential goods and services like gasoline and water while also enjoying access to some very exclusive club privileges like being able to buy tickets for select events at Cowboys Stadium courtesy of then-CEO Rick Hurd (now CEO Tim Cook). Despite these limitations however things began rapidly changing beginning around 2006 when then- Mayor Burgess announced that he would be retiring after 10 years on the job; new leadership quickly emerged seeking change including billionaire entrepreneur Clay Hunt who purchased much needed property adjacent to downtownDallas specifically for development into an urban center resembling Austin circa 1970s or even earlier complete with high rises surrounding a large central square hosting various cultural amenities (e.g., movie theaters / music venues etc.) Additionally Hunt began working tirelessly towards reversing decades long trend towards suburban growth Patterns throughout McLennan County culminating finally in May 2014 when he successfully petitioned state lawmakers utilizing innovative green industry legislation authored by his predecessor Jack McGee which ultimately granted him full authority over all municipal functions within city limits effective July 1st 2015 becoming eventually known colloquially as Mayor Hunt’s “waxahachi”… effectively creating one giant corporatized city government made up largely/solelyof Chamber members current or past elected officials who receive special benefits/pension income etc.?
