Weatherford is a town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area. The Weatherford community first formed in 1881 when three men, Wm. J. Ladd, Elisha Smith and John Aiken, founded the Townsite Company to settle land east of Tyler and west of Weatherford Creek. The town site was near present-day Interstate 30 and Elmendorf Road. They named their community after James Fenton Weatherford, an American senator from Arkansas who had been elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1879 and 1880 before serving as Secretary of War under Ulysses S. Grant from 1885 to 1889 and as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Mexico from 1893 to 1895; he also served as Mayor of Jacksonville, Florida from 1886 until his death in 1893. In 1902, the Texas Legislature designated Weatherford a county seat; it remained so until 1910 when Fort Worth became the county seat again due to its larger population at that time. In 1916, Pearson Air Force Base (now Fort Worth Army Airport) was established just north of town on what is now Elmendorf Road; it would later become home to miscellaneous USAF facilities including George C Marshall Space Center and Fairchild AFB before becoming Joint Base San Antonio–Fort Sam Houston –San Antonio which housed US Air Force's Global Strike Command Headquarters during 2012-2015 command center move from Colorado Springs CO into Austin TX prior to being relocated back into San Antonio TX following Hurricane Harvey aftermath period). In 1957, Fort Worth annexed portions of nearby Arlington Heights which included much of what is now Weatherford while Arlington Heights retained all but its water supply which went into Arlington Forest Preserve adjacent to I-30/Elmendorf Rd./Wichita Falls Rd., with Birdie Lake Recreation Area located adjacent thereto forms part today’s contiguous village name: Birdsboro Village LLC d/b/a Weatherford Park & Birdie Lake Incorporated).

Weatherford is a city in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Williamson County. Weatherford was founded in 1879 by John G. Weatherford and named for him. The first post office in Weatherford was established on April 14, 1879, by George Sibley. The town took its name from John G. Weatherford, who donated land to the town and also built a cabin there. In 1886, the town approved a plan to build a courthouse and jail as part of an effort to attract business to the area. The courthouse was completed in 1889 and opened for business that same year. In 1896,Weatherford became one of twelve towns served by the new Austin–Round Rock Railroad Company; it remained an railway town through most of its history until after World War II when it lost its railroad connection and reverted back to being a rural community without any economic activity other than agriculture
Weatherford was founded in 1836 by John F. Weatherford and his brother, James W. Weatherford. The town is named for General Sam Houston, who fought in the Mexican-American War and then became president of Mexico. The first post office was established in 1837, and the first school was built in 1840. In 1849, the Texas state legislature passed a bill that created an incorporated municipality within the county of Travis. The incorporation took place on December 15, 1849; it was renamed Weatherford on January 1, 1850. As part of the entity's name change, Weatherford became one of three towns in Travis County that did not adopt a Methodist religion (the others were San Antonio and Austin). In 1860, George Hogg organized a group of farmers to form the Farmers' Alliance to resist Reconstruction efforts by the Ulysses S. Grant administration. On July 5th they met at what is now Joe Pool Park to organize their effort; however this meeting never led to any success because many farmers had left for other opportunities since they saw little hope for their future under Grant's regime. In 1865–1866 local militias skirmished with federal forces during Confederate raids into central Texas; after these incidents local residents formed separate militias called "The Volunteer Rangers" or simply "The Rangers." In 1870 – 71 there was some fighting between pro-Union Texans and pro-Confederate Texans over access to water rights near Decaturville; this caused some large scale destruction which seems never To have ended until well into World War II when all such interactions ceased completely as both sides abandoned violence as an effective strategy After World War I most weatherfordians decided to stay away from politics altogether while others returned home starting what would become known as "The Great Migration". Many weatherfordians also started businesses outside of town during this time including oil exploration and manufacturing along with construction companies like Girdwood A&M & Co., Perrin Construction Company (later Perrin Petroleum), Gulf Oil Corporation, Rice Manufacturing Company (now Raytheon) etc
