Radcliffe); First Lieutenant Harry Safford; Acting Master's Mate Third Class Archibald Noyes; Secretary of State Cordell Hull’s private secretary Alice Paul Smith who was also aboard Lexington during her stay in Cuba; and other distinguished guests including Hollywood star Humphrey Bogart and President Franklin D. Weslaco is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County. The first permanent settler in what is now Weslaco was Elisha Dickinson in 1836. A post office called Weslaco was established in 1852, and remained in operation until 1893. The first school opened in 1854, and the present high school opened its doors to students on September 15, 1957. The community grew rapidly during the 20th century due to its natural gas resources and related businesses. After World War II, however, industry declined as energy prices rose and productionshrank. Today Weslaco is home to a few restaurants and a couple of stores used for local convenience store operations only; most of the remaining commercial activity takes place within a few miles of the town center.

Weslaco is a town in Brazoria County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,688 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The name Weslaco comes from the Wichita language and means "house of the Wichita people." The first settler in what is now Weslaco was George Haughton. He arrived there in 1853 with his family and built a cabin on a hill near the present day intersection of FM 527 and I-610. A post office called Wescoco was established in 1857, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. A group of Methodist ministers founded an Episcopal church there in 1865. That same year, Edward Wells opened a shoe store in what is now Weslaco and renamed it Wells Fargo & Company after himself and another merchant, William Fargo (1819-86). In 1870s, following annexation by Houston of much of Brazoria County, infantile paralysis caused many residents to leave their homes for lack of medical care; this led to the founding of several hospitals including Baylor University Medical Center which moved into its current building on West Fayette Street in 1904. In 1886 John Wesley Hardin purchased 640 acres (252 ha) around what is now Weslaco from Ector Matson for $2 per acre ($10 per ha). This land had been donated by Matson to modern day Baylor University as part of its donation to that institution mentioned earlier. Hardin began construction on one of Baylor's first buildings – an engineering school building known today as Hardin Hall – soon after purchase. He named his new estate "Wesley" after Methodist preacher John Wesley himself (1788-1848). By 1907 Hardin had developed over 4 miles (6 km) worthof agricultural land that supplied him with fresh produce for his mansion as well as 300 head of cattle; he also leased 400 acres (160 ha) to the city government for use as parkland surrounding City Hall precinct line where today most citizens gather on hot days during summertime before going about their daily lives or using parks located within easy walking distance including Rice Lake Park just east off FM 1960 exit ramp onto US 59/I-610
