West University Place is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by pioneers who arrived in West Texas during the Republic of Texas era in 1836. The first post office was established in 1837 and named for George Washington West. The name "West" originated from their location on the Western Frontier and because of its similarity to England's Westminster Abbey. The town grew rapidly due to its location near important railroads and its access to water resources. By 1860, a school had been built and named after Drury Lane Presbyterian Church leader Rev. James Muckleridge (1815-1887). In 1870, Voters approved an Act creating an incorporated municipality with a total population of 10,000 people which would include all unincorporated areas east of I-10 joining the municipality as well as any new settlements west of I-10 that were not already part of Fort Worth or Arlington County government limits. In 1878, voters passed an act authorizing the erection of a public library within the boundaries of the newly formed municipality adding 814 acres (30 km²) to what was then rural land east of Interstate 10 and west side Lake Arlington southward to FM 922 (now US 281). On October 2nd, 1886 when it became known as West University Place DFW Airport Authority No.: 4362 - this airport authority became operational under FAA Paper Number 3294 dated Feb 22nd 1985 with Board Member Mrs Celeste Heyns appointed Chairman with Mr Tom Reedy Vice Chairman

West University Place is a historic district in the city of Austin, Texas. The district was developed between 1892 and 1893 by James W. Watt and his brother-in-law, Samuel L. Jones, Sr. It is one of the oldest districts in Austin, and it contains many of Watt's original buildings. Watt first came to Austin as a student at Montero School in 1881. He later attended Lamar Academy before moving to Austin and starting Watt Dry Goods Company in 1892. In 1895, he founded West University Place as an enclosed shopping district on the west side of downtownAustin. The area now includes much of Downtown Austin with its Victorian architecture dating back to the early 20th century. West University Place has been used for various purposes over the years including as a movie theater, office building, and nightlife area. It has also been home to several universities including UTSA (now UT), Rice University, and McGeorge Center for Creative Studies.
