The history of the Coast Guard in White Settlement, Texas dates back to 1909 when the first Coast Guard detachment was stationed at Fort Worth. At that time, there were no coasts in Texas and only a few small islands in the Gulf of Mexico. The first effort to set up a coast guard station in White Settlement was made by Capt. John K. Hale, who served as Commandant of the Marines during World War I. Captain Hale envisioned a coast guard station as an important tool for protecting maritime interests and essential to providing law and order on the coastal community. The Coast Guard detachment operated outposts until 1932 when it was abolished and its functions absorbed into the new Department of Public Safety. In 1934, Captain Harry Wirtz assumed command of the Coast Guard detachment at White Settlement and began preparations for establishment of a permanent Presence on our shores. A $5,000 appropriation from state legislature earmarked funds for purchasing land for a lighthouse and harbor facilities at White Settlement were purchased on February 12th 1935- making us one of only two communities in Texas to have such an institution established by government action alone! On July 16th 1936, we erected our first tower atop Bunker Hill School which functioned as our primary lookout point for shipping traffic entering or leaving our port town along Corpus Christi Bayou ( eventually becoming known as "The Point"). Our present day infrastructure includes: A helicopter landing pad; several miles long open waterfront; three marinas with over 50 trailer parking spaces; four Launch Pad complexes; five storehouses/warehouses; five fire stations; six communications towers including one topographical map antennae system - all built with private money! Our personnel encompass more than seventy-five agents/officers who provide critical homeland security services through enforcement activities ashore as well as offering public education opportunities through Recreational Boating Programs conducted aboard both local harbors! On November 15th 1984, President Reagan announced his intention to establish an additional UHF microwave ground station specific to tracking cocaine smugglers offshore near Brownsville – this placed Texaco Beach within reach!!! In 1990s we became familiar with Operation Neptune’s Spear which targeted traffickers hijacking small boats filled with migrants attempting passage from Africa across Sabine Pass into America!! Today’s Coast Guards are also called upon frequently during natural disasters such Hurricane Harvey or Mexican Drug cartels illicit trafficking operations off TX coastline

The White Settlement, Texas coast guard gift history can be traced back to 1917 when the state of Texas purchased a yacht, "Majestic", from Adolphus Busch. The yacht was used for patrol and coastal security duties and it is believed that the first Coast Guard gift was given to the vessel. In 1947, the Texas State Legislature passed legislation authorizing the establishment of a coast guard district in White Settlement. This district became known asthe "White Settlement Coast Guard District". The first captain of the district was James W. Hecht. In 1951, Captain Hecht donated his ship, "Hercules" to the district as a memorial to his predecessor in command. The current captain of the White Settlement Coast Guard District is Capt. Zachary J. Kiefer Jr.. The department has a fleet of six vessels which includes three motorboats, one helicopter and one small boat/paddleboat
The first white settlement in Texas was made by the British in 1836. The area that is now Texas was known as Mexican America and was disputed by both Mexico and the United States. In 1837, Captain James Fenton of the USS Constitution landed his party of settlers at what is today San Antonio, Texas, on land claimed by Mexico. The U.S. government claimed that since the area belonged to them, they needed no help from a British captain to settle it and began to build infrastructure such as roads and churches. In 1845, Ulysses S. Grant became president of the United States and decided that he would not allow any more Native Americans to live in his country without having some form of protection or compensation from them. He ordered General Zachary Taylor to march his army into Mexican America and drive out all the Indians there – an event which is considered one of the most important moments in American history. After months of fighting, Taylor’s army arrived at Veracruz City on July 14th, 1846; however, he found no evidence whatsoever that there were any Indian tribes living there other than those already living in Texas illegally under Mexican rule! As a result of this fiasco, Grant ordered Taylor to retreat back into Mexico with only 2500 men instead of the predicted 7000 soldiers he had expected. White Settlement began very slowly due to high population rates in bothTexasand California during this time period (It will take until after World War II for white settlement numbers numbers to reach their current levels). There were a few families who made the decision to move westward because they believed it could be a better life for their children than what they experienced back east where racism still prevailed even though times had changed drastically since earlier days when slavery was legalized across America (This also contributed towards later movements like desegregation)). initially many people came overland via wagon trains because transportation was difficult or impossible back thenicia state such as New Mexico etc.; however over time rails were built so people could travel quickly & easily through certain areas including San Antonio TX
