Coffee has been a part of Wylie, Texas for over 100 years. The first coffee shop in town was opened in 1892 by George and Amy White. One of the early pioneers to introduce coffee to Wylie was John Atwater, who started serving coffee at his store on Hwy 83 in 1905. In 1916, Mr. Atwater's son-in-law, Harry Soper, purchased the business from Mr. Atwater and changed the name to Harry's Coffee House. In 1930, Harry's Coffee House became one of the first businesses in town to open its doors 24 hours a day. This dedication to service set the standard for all future businesses that operated in Wylie until 1991 when Radio Shack came into town and closed down their store every day except Saturday morning. Today there are still many successful businesses that have contributed to Wylie’s history including: Harry’s Coffee House (now closed), Denny’s Restaurant & Lounge (now closed), Blockbuster Video (closed now replaced by Overlord Games), Jiffy Lube (closed now replaced by Lowe’s) and Tim Hortons (opened in 1991).
