In Centerville, Utah, there is a history of coffee that goes back to the early 1800s. The town was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1847 and quickly became an important center for the LDS faith. Over time, Centerville became known as one of the most coffee-friendly towns in Utah. In 1949, pioneer Willard Richards began growing coffee beans in his barn on what is now Centerville's Main Street. By the 1960s, Richards' coffee shop had become one of the most popular in Centerville. In fact, it remains a local favorite to this day. Over the years, Richards has passed away but his legacy lives on through his son and successor, Bill Richards Jr.Bill has continued to operate Richards Coffee until recently when he retired from business ownership and opened up his own store called "The Coffee House." In addition to their daily operations at The Coffee House, Bill and his wife Barbara also serve as proprietors of TheCENTER for Artisan Coffee - a nonprofit organization that preserves and promotes craftsmanship in coffee production throughout Utah.

In 1951, Wirth's son Amos bought the business from Mr. Potter and continued to make and sell coffee until his death in 1984. In 1984, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints purchased the business from Amos Wirth's widow and continue to operate it as a church-owned business today.
