Rutland, Vermont is a town in Rutland County, Vermont, United States. The population was 10,063 at the 2010 census. It is the largest village in Rutland County and home to the Rutland Regional Library system. The first permanent settler in what is now Rutland County was Nicholas Ives in 1796. A post office called Concord was established in 1812, and remained in operation until 1959. The first settlers of what would become Rutland Township were George Haggerty and his family on July 1, 1837; David Mather was granted township land on November 9th of that year. Ives's son-in-law Jonathan Edwards built a sawmill there in 1838. Frantz Wurtzel founded a tannery there in 1850. In 1863 the railway arrived through Rutland Township and began service to Burlington from Worcester; this led to an increase in commercial activity along routes passing through the town and its environs. In 1865 John Fitch opened a grocery store at the junction of Main Street and State Route 6 (later US 7). In 1886 local resident Isaac Sears donated land for what would become Stowe Village Cemetery; this addition helped to make Rutlanders one of the most heavily populated communities within commuting distance of New York City. A new school building was constructed near present-day State Route 143 (now Interstate 87) just east of downtown Rutland during 1907–1908 by Willard Sargent as part of a larger educational project initiated by then-Mayor James Ransom Callahan Sr.. This building served as both schools for rural students up until 1955 when all public education ended within townships except for criminal justice services which continue to be provided by Town Meeting Hall School District #1 today

Rutland, VT is a small town located in Windsor County, Vermont. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. Rutland is one of Vermonters' oldest towns and has been inhabited for over three centuries. The town was once a part of the Kingdom of Norwich and served as its capital from 1230 to 1247. In 1697, Rutland was purchased by John Winthrop and renamed after him. The first white settler in Rutland was Rev. Samuel Eliot who arrived in 1701. He founded an Anglican church there in 1703 which still stands today. Between 1800-1815, Rutland saw a significant growth due to the influx of Congregationalists and Presbyterians from New England who began to settle there because they believed in rural democracy instead of centralized government control. In 1827, the Burlington Railroad reached Rutland and started providing transportation to and from Burlington Falls on the Connecticut River. This’s when Rutland truly became a center for commerce with businesses like stores, mills, hotels and churches springing up all around town beginning what would become known as the “Rutlands Revival” period of time where many homes were built new brick or stone construction with Federal style gables and several large churches being erected near downtown including First Baptist Church (now called United Methodist) which opened its doors August 4th 1829 under Rev Dr Ezekiel Chandler; Second Presbyterian Church (now called Emmanuel Episcopal); Third Presbyterian Church (now called United Reformed). By 1840, just over one hundred years had passed since settlers first set foot on this land in what is now Windsor County!
